Hi guys and gals, has anyone had this problem. I have a Johnson 115vxsss equipped with a system check gauge, I'm getting a NO OIL light with a constant horn. The book calls for a intermittent horn. After checking oil, motor and condition of plugs ( for heat) all looked ok, boat made it back ok . My question is, is there a test that will tell me if the oil pump is bad or i have some other problem, shop manual is unclear on pump test. Thank You . Mike

Does the Johnson have a small oil reservoir on the engine? I have a Johnson but the PO disconnected the VRO so I'm not sure if they took the tank off too. I have one on my Yammy and it'll send the alarm if it gets low too. It is what signals the main reservoir to pump oil over (a mechanic explained it that way).

No small tank under the cowl like a Merc. But the main oil tank does have a level alarm. Do you have a owners manual?

There is no tank on the motor the tank on the deck has a level gauge connected to the system check and when the oil gets low you get an alarm and the Low oil light, I'm getting a No oil lamp.

I would check/replace the filter that resides within the oil tank itself.

Read this, it has been around a while but holds some truth about VRO systems
