Title: 1996 200 Osprey or 195 Osprey?
Post by: evanrolltide on May 20, 2013, 11:24:54 PM
Hello again! I am still in the market for a new to me boat.... just looked at a 222 CCP 1979... a little older and more work than I want.

Interested in a 1996 200 Osprey w/  150 Johnson 2s ... I want a boat for near shore fishing within 10-15 miles at least. Will I be disappointed in the performance of this boat in this regard? I know it has a shallow hull, but I am moving up from a 165 Striper which I took 10 miles out a couple times last year fishing for snapper.... I am really wanting to be able to take 4 people out Snapper fishing and think if I pick my days this boat will do it. And with the 150 it should be fast enough that I can be back pretty quick if need be...

I am on the gulf coast of AL, any input?

Here is a picture of the Striper...may be going up for sale if I find another boat. On this day we outfished plenty of people in larger boats, including a friend of mine who didn't take his 204 Angler out of the pass because it was "too rough."

I can tell you the 200 Osprey will handle and ride much better in a chop than your 165 Striper did! A 150 will make that thing fly!

Thanks for the input guys...will update the thread if there is any progress...

I don't know why I am so attracted to Aquasports but in my used boat hunt I always find myself looking at one.

Well, they're pretty boats!  Self-explanatory!

There is also a 1995 195 Osprey DC in my area.... I am not opposed to the DC layout. I am curious if it is the same hull as the 200 Osprey anyway. It has a 17 gal livewell but it is round, I am not sure what the 200 Osprey's livewell holds. The DC also has trim tabs...

Any input? Trying to find pictures of the layout of the 195.

I've been looking at that same catalog. I'm thinking they are probably the same... so 50 gal fuel. Both should be speedy with the 150.

Going to Look at the 195 Osprey tomorrow....! Took the 165 Striper out in the bay tonight and she ran like a top. 48 spl Johnson takes like 3 minutes to run the fuel out of the carbs!

Fished a couple inshore reefs, caught a couple specks and a black drum. Makes me sad to think of selling her but I want more!
Guy at the ramp said how much he liked it... I think I about sold it to him right there!

We ended up buying the 195 Osprey DC. To me a CC is a more aesthetically pleasing boat but I am a fishing oriented guy and really like the open cockpit on the dc. Plus the 195 had lenco trim tabs, VHF, Fishfinder/GPS combo, stereo, rear bench seat, dive ladder in addition to swim ladder, pumpout fish box, and all the original upholstery in mostly decent shape... (the rear padded bolster needs a little work). The trailer needs a little work so we were able to take 500$ off the price. I'll put pictures up when I can but the boat is still in dry storage now until we get the trailer fixed.

Thanks for having such a great website here. I did a lot of research and spent a lot of time looking through the old catalogs.
