What is the easiest way anybody please I'm struggling with this. I've tried sanding which it would take me a month to do that. I've tried power washing, easy off oven cleaner, got a sandblaster which was working slowly but my 30 gallon compressor would run out of air it 5 min and I didn't want to burn up the motor. Is there an easier way? Its got the red bottom paint and the blue over top of that. Anyone help???

Have you tried any paint stripper for bottom paint? Sanding it with a DA sander and a minimum of a 60 gallon compressor is probably the most popular method.
Removing bottom paint is hard NASTY work. Sometimes the best tools are a pen and your checkbook!

My favorite line....Bruce.
here is my thread on removal of my bottom paint... like roofing roofing, it only takes one time to cure you of it... it can be done, but get ready to get down and nasty... look at the guy in the background in the TYVEK suit, all blue... guess who that was :scrHead: of course this is a good time of year to do it, I think it was August or something down here when I did it.

Have you tried the Easy-off oven cleaner route? It actually works. There is a thread on CM or THT about a guy with a walkaround doing his boat. Lots of good info in the thread. I'll see if I can find it.

There is a thread on here or THT (I think it is here - maybe LilRichard's rebuild??) that talks about a pressure washer attachment that is essentially a sand blaster. Seemed to work well, and was not too expensive (~$60 or so?). You would probably need to follow it up with a sander, but it seemed to get most of the paint off if I recall correctly.

Here ya go! Actually was on iboats. The bottom paint stuff starts on page 8.

WOW that guy did an amazing job on that thing. I love the lines of those old Chris Craft Sea Hawks. I tried some Easy off on my tabs a while back and it did take off the paint. I have to strip the bottom of my boat... but I have been putting it off! Lucky for me whoever put the first coat on the DID NOT prep the hull by sanding and where the bottom piant is flaking off you can see shiny gel underneath. Let us know how you make out!

Go the checkbook route.
a) Hire two high school kids. When those two quit, hire two more. Or...
b) Take it to a sand blaster and have it soda-blasted. They advertise they'll do it for $200. But careful, they'll make excuses and charge more. With this method you'll still have some finish sanding. Hire another high school kid :thumright:

My first question is how old are ya.
I removed the bottom paint on my 22 FF 23 years ago....was a lot younger than, no way I would try it now.
My bro has a boat lift at his place, hung the boat with chain lifts.
I used a electric DA sander with I think 80 grit discs.
It had to be one of the most miserable jobs I have ever done.
Nothing like laying on your back and getting your face covered with bottom paint dust :(
I think with the sanding and painting I had something like 24 hours in it.
Hire it out.

Heres an easy guide: :?
Figure how much time and materials it would take you to sand the entire bottom, allow your self $10.00 an hour for your time(sounds low)
Add it all up and see what the price is..
Than get a quote for having it soda blasted..
figure the difference and there you have the real cost to you :thumright: If the difference is reasonable to you, get it done, it probablly won't take them all day and you don't get messy till you paint :thumright:
Just my $.02

exactly!!!
i contemplated sanding the entire inside of my hull before glassing. took the boat for a quote to have a sandblaster do it, i left the boat with them and picked it up the next day. cost me 300 bucks to blast the cap, inside gunnels, the stringers inside and out, and the inside hull bottom. most sandblast shops charge $100 to $150 and hour... it may sound like a lot but a pro would have the boat done in less than 2-3 hours

You really don't need to go crazy with bottom paint. Take as much as you can off, a light sanding really, not all of it so there's fiberglass showing. Then just clean and paint over it.

Randy grow a pair and sand that stuff off with your bare hands like a man!!!! Lol call me i will give you some help
