Title: What color Kiwi Grip?
Post by: Mullady76 on March 10, 2016, 04:44:02 PM
The previous owner painted over the factory non-skid with white paint and an anti skid additive, it almost looks and feels like sand.  I can't keep floor clean and it is really rough on your bare feet.  So I'm going to sand it down and recoat with KiwiGrip.  That said, I'm not sure what color I should go with....white, grey, or the cream?  The boat is 1980 CCP 200 and is a very light cream color. Below is the only picture I have of the boat and it from when I was modifying the T top to fit.
Thanks, Sean

Hi Sean,
Nice looking boat  :thumleft:
I am not familiar with all the colors available from Kiwi but I would stay away from hi reflection colors, like white.  Light grey would be my choice.

Thanks, I think I'm going to keep it old school and go with the cream color.

Cream is not white, so good choice.

I also will be installing Kiwi Grip on my 222 here soon. You can color match the non skip since it is a water based product. Go to you local sherwiliams and have them color match it.

Let me know how it works out, John

I went with the grey Kiwigrip on mine.  Not bright to the eyes and doesn't show dirt as bad as white or cream will.

you can also use behr floor and porch enamel , water based, just like kiwi and get the rough texture roller, and any color you want , no additives needed and use the bonding primer, i have had excellent results just as good as kiwi grip and 1/4 the price, also as alternative you can use rustoleum enamel with majik hardner and use white sand from hobby lobby and it give a really cool look with a very fine cabinet roller

I used the Tuff Coat. It was easy to work with, hid minor imperfections and the final product looks great.  I would recommend it!

Gonna kiwi my deck this weekend. I'd like to level an area of the  coffin hatch that's sagging a bit.(warped plywood after I glassed it in). How thick can I apply kiwigrip? I'm thinking of leveling the 1/4 depression with first coat then following up with a total deck job.

Disclaimer,  I have never used Kiwi Grip.  But based on other painting that I have done, I see 3 concerns with your plan.

1.  Applied that thick, the Kiwi will take a very long time to dry, and it will most likely crack as it cures.

2. The thicker kiwi may separate from the underlying deck coming off in big unsightly chunks.

3.  If 1 & 2 occur, or if you decide that you want to do a more permanent repair, it will be a PITA to remove all the kiwi.

As I said I have no experience with Kiwi Grip, though I am planning to use it on my rebuild.  At the very least, I recommend that you contact tech support for whoever sold you the Kiwi, and discuss your plans.

I used it on my 222 CCP.  It will go on a little thick because it is thick to start with.  Don't apply it in direct sunlight.  It dries very fast.  If using tape for anything pull up as soon as you have applied it.  Don't wait for it to dry and then try and pull up tape.  It might not come up.  Kiwigrip is easy to apply just follow the basic steps.

As in everything, it will only come out as good as the prep work.

110%!    Better off leveling with some fairing compound then putting some finish cloth on top...

2nd this. I just did some touch ups to some that peeled up after a gas spill and some that peeled up when I removed my console for the new fuel tank install. I had to sand down the hard edges quite a bit to get it feathered in nicely. Kiwi grip will not fill in sags. Fair it out properly first...you'll be happy you did.
