Transom capacity of a 1976 22 cuddy ?
« on: June 22, 2009, 09:48:42 AM »
I am buying a 1976 22 cuddy for weekend fishing in the Great Egg harbor bay area. South Jersey.
What is the engine weight capacity of a 1976 22 Cuddy? Current engine is a 140 hp Johnson and I want to know if a 200 hp johnson will work. I realize that transom will need to be at near 100% strength before I mount new ( used Engine) that weighs about 390 lbs. Or, I will need to find a engine that is better suited.

Thank you.
If you  have old spec sheets that would be greatly apprecaited.

The 76 model 22-2FF (Family Fisherman or Cuddy) is rated for 245HP max, and was designed for single or twin power.  I think you could put about any single you wanted on the back up to 250 HP and not have a problem.  Your boat will run well with a 200 - try a 19 pitch prop - it should be about right.  If the 19 does not get you out of the hole fast enough, go to 17.

Hope this helps; see ya on the water!
