Seems we are massing up and need to show our strength :salut:

I live in Sarasota, FL and with the exception of 10 yrs in the military, have been here all my life.
Been here on the site a while now and started out with a 170 in '88

and that was just fine (and still is) until wife #2 said it was too "bumpy". So off I went on a mission to satisfy her bump (did I say that :D ) and ended up with a bigger truck and my 230 Explorer.

We started customizing her out the way we wanted to use her and ended up with quite a nice camping platform.

She still has the original 250 Yammy horses on her and they purr like knew (knocking on wood). Hope it hangs in there for a long time.

I've had several other Aquas and I'm just getting to know this one. I'm more of a function guy rather than form but....
There's something to be said for looking good when Sea Tow shows up. :wink:

Built in 1991 at the Bradenton/Sarasota Fla. Wellcraft plant, she's a transition model (210) between the old Hialeah hull Express Fisherman and the newer Genmar era Explorer. It filled the niche for a "small" WAC probably till 93 (a guess) when it was discontinued. Later Aqua brought the 215 Explorer (96) on board which was at the time, the 210 Coastal built by Wellcraft and re-badged as an Aquasport.
Like Rick's 230, they share the same basic layout forward but the 230 is 2' longer and the stern area cap is different. It has the original 1991 200hp Yamaha 2 stroker and Bimini top (just temporary relocated forward and up). Motor runs well though the hours of use are unknown and after spending the last 16 years on a CCP, steers just a little "differently".

We just got back yesterday from a Gulf Coast trip to include scalloping in Keaton Beach, Cruising/fishing in Sarasota, and headed down to the Boca Grande area. Here's a couple of pics of my boat at Cabbage Key. :)

Can't wait for this summer to be over,I plan on doing a lot of boat camping this year when it gets cooler.

If you guys had asked about a month ago I would have went on a tirat about how great it was. Don't get me wrong, the engine is everything Bombardier claims and more. Starts every time, no smoke, sips fuel, quiet, the best power to wieght ratio on the market, and winterizes itself. (thats something you Floridains don't have to do :lol: :lol: :lol: ) About 3 weeks ago she acted up, would run ok than drop a thousand RPMs. Turned out I had a bad factory crimp in number 5 fuel injector. Turns out this a known problem with the 2008 model year but to sporadic for a recall. Bombardeir replaced the bad injector without an issue, but when I asked about the other 5 I was told flat out no. I felt since it was a known problem they should have replaced all 6.

I had the arch/bimini custom built. If you put on a bimini and an arch over the top it's tough to reach the rod holders. This way I can place rods, or the net in the holders while standing on the deck. It didn't come with and encloser, and since I usually pull in early November it hasn't really been an issue.
At first I really didn't want the bimini, but the first mate had a couple of issues with me putting up and arch to hold fishing rods a while she cooks in the sun. It rolls back and I figured I'd leave that way except when she comes. Turned out I really like it and rarely put it up.

My name is Bill and I live in Vancleave, MS on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. My most recent acquisition is a 1997 245 Explorer that I acquired in June to go along with a 1979 19-6 Osprey and a 2001 205 Osprey. So far I have been favorably impressed, although I have had some Ethanol fuel problems created by a previous owner.
I use this boat mostly as a Mother Ship to transport fishermen and kayaks to the Mississippi Barrier Islands and, hopefully, to the Chandeleurs in the near future.

Most of you know I built Ospreys, your Explorer's sister ships...right next to the Explorer line, not 20' away. I saw hundreds, and hundreds, and hundreds roll off the line in my time at WC/AS. It is really cool to see all you proud owners, and how you treat your boats!! My hat is off to you guys!!! :salut: :salut: :salut:

Scott: She sits level, doesn't seem to mind the weight a bit...since I didn't see her when she had a two-stroke, I'm not really qualified to say if she sits lower than she did or not.....
Pete: I love the way the Hobie Mirage sits on her gunwale, doesn't take up all the room in the floor like it does in the 205 or the 19-6....does restrict access to the walkaround somewhat, but we just go around the other side....or if we have two kayaks, we just go through the window... 8)

Just got a 250 Explore 2003. It's a bit different as I'm down in Australia and haven't seen any more down here. Got some big plans for her and I have started to strip it down and restore it back to new with a full sand and polish. Not that it was poor condition just I need to do it now as it would never get done as I would be out fishing in her. Plans at this stage are putting a 300 verado and all new electronics twin simrad nss12 evo2
Just need to sell my other boat to have the cash. :roll:

The Explorer (aka EX) is a wonderful model for activities in the cockpit - trolling, deep fishing, sunning, partying, etc.
As you can tell by the Profile view there is a lot of weight forward so you'll need to learn how to trim and adjust the tabs to keep the weight back a bit to avoid getting wet.
I have a soft top EX and added (thanks to my lovely wife) a full bimini around the cockpit and to the back of the boat and then we added to the entire bimini, screen and eisenglass. This gives us a great lounge boat with plenty of shade/cover, a camper (which we love to do) and also I can remove the back portion of the bimini and use her to fish deep and we can hide under the cockpit canvas. The screen makes the boat nice in bug season and the eisenglass makes it nice in foul weather.
The cabin on these boats is a place to hide if you don't have a wrap and sleep (a couple people) if you like to camp. With a porta potty it gives the crew a place to do their business if necessary. Otherwise it's a place to store rods and gear.
I really like mine - I don't get to use it often enough but it is a nice boat.

I'm John. I live in Wilmington, NC. I bought my 1998 215 Explorer back in February. It was re-powered in 2006 with a Suzuki DF225, so haven't had the "too much weight up front" issues, ha.
I haven't had it offshore yet. Mostly just been island hopping and joyriding so far. I grew up fishing on my dad's old 1978 Bertram 35 convertible. In that boat, the outlook was 1 ft seas (Wow! Yay!), 3-4ft seas (a little bumpy, but we're still going out), and 6ft seas (hold on, it's going to be a little scary on the way back). Needless to say, I'm having to re-learn weather planning for...1ft seas (great), 3-4 ft seas (terrifying), and 6ft seas (Nope!).

Hi my name is Rocky, My Wife Kathy and I took on the stewardship of this 1992 210 Explorer about 6 years ago . We live on Cape Cod during the summers and moor her in the Bass River . When we got her she was well equipped with GPS ,Bennett trim tabs and a Hummingbird fish finder, we have upgraded the electronics with a Lowrance Elite 5 GPS/chart plotter and a Cobra MRF45-D VHF . The original 175 Black Max struggled for 3 years and we got towed in twice ,Sweety said we needed a new one, so now she is sporting a very low hour 2002, 150 SaltWater Series Merc. she never ran so good ! We have been enjoying the second season since the repower and new aluminum 100g tank and everything is as it should be . We are planning an overnight camping trip to Marthas Vineyard in the near future. Our next upgrade will be a T-Top or a modified radar arch to keep the deck clear of fishing rods . I bought it last year from a 81 year old man tha told me that it had around 300 hr on it the compression on the motor is right on and he still had all the cushions and all of the enclosure around the cockpit.the fabric is in good shape but the zipper and snaps are gone but a good upholstery shop should be able to make me new ones.

New to the club, just picked up a 92 Explorer 210. First big boat, have only owned flats boats before. Took her out on her maiden voyage this past weekend. Looking forward to getting her cleaned up and adding a few finishing touches

Ok so I introduced myself in the FF (Family Fisherman) thread as well as this one and I am seeing people say that they have an Explorer and not an Express or that their boat is a Walkaround. Is there something specific that makes a boat fit into certain category ? because I was under the impression that you can call all of them walkarounds/ cuddy cabins, etc.

The walkaround ability started in the Express Fisherman (XF) model.

The Explorer model came after the XF and for 1-2 years there was a "Walkaround" model made - you'll find 2 instances of this here and both are 210 models. This was around 90-91. After that year the Explorer was born and remained until the end.

Model name during year of manufacture. In the 80's a "walkaround cuddy cabin" was called an Express Fisherman. In 91, they were listed as Walkarounds, Starting in 92 they became Explorers and retained that marketing name until Aqua threw in the towel in 2005.

Hey RickK & Capt Bob, thanks for clearing that up for me because I was really questioning my understanding on boats. I see The difference in the FF but all of the other ones were just choice of labeling/marketing by AS. So I have the XF and those original brochures are great to have especially when wanting to know the specs on your boat. I’m starting to change some things on it. It’s my first “owned” boat and we’ll see how long it stays with me since they say you never keep your first boat. Again thanks for having me and being attentive and responsive to the page and posts.

Hey all! Picked up a 86 22 Express Fishermen about 3 months ago. Has a 99 225EFI Merc 3.0 with under 400hrs.
Will be doing a full resto on it! Who else has the same model and can send me pics of your boat for ideas...
Bimini dimensions for the cockpit (just area around the helm) because i want to cover the helm but have it open on sides to walk to bow!
Will tag a picture or two!

Hi, Nestor here and I just picked up a 2001 215 Explorer, and I live in Melbourne, FL. Have had several other boats before of different brands but am very familiar with Aquasports since I've seen them around for a very long time. Haven't splashed her yet as the trailer's at the shop getting some TLC, besides I have new electronics and some small repairs to do before I do so. Can't wait to use her in the rivers, lakes and oceans around here!
