Great job on the presentation Pete  :thumleft: looks like you two had a great time.

I get the general idea how a transom is built but how the heck does one hold 5 heavy motors  :scratch:

Yes,
       I went to the Las Vegas SHOT SHOW (gun/hunting stuff)   WHEW !!!  Sight to see.  

       Stupendously mind boggling array of products, displays, etc.   The word was that Browning spent almost $200K on their display area alone.  That show is a 3 dayer to see everything properly.

  When I return to FL I will fer sure see you at the Miami Boat show.  Thanks again Pete.

3300 pounds on the ars-end....PLUS the heavy-duty transom weight. Empirical questions....

They hold a chitload of fuel....but with that kind of stern weight....how are they balanced out? How much do they weigh on the hoof? And with a trip axle big-boy trailer....will a one-ton duelie pull it? And what is the beam...do they need a permit?

there is a thread on tht about a guy who wants to tow 8,000 lbs with a rav4 so i think a dually could pull it  :lol:  :lol: ... anything over 8'6" needs a permit, we have one for our searay which is 10'2"

At Proline, our tow vehicle was an '05 GMC dually, Duramax/Allison 4WD, we used to pull our 35 Express, triple Vrods, tower, on a triple axle Myco with a pintle hook...around 18K lbs.  Yeah, you knew she was back there, but no big deal...that Allison was sweet on engine braking, you didn't have to really plan your stops, if you know what I mean.  

Hauling around the Doc's 28 Pursuit on a BIG Boatmaster dual axle (17" wheels!) pushes close to 12.5K lbs, with his diesel Excursion 4WD, have to do a little more planning on the stops.  And, yeah, a little slow off the line.  The thing you DON'T want to do is have repeated hard stops, overheat the brake rotors, introduce brake fade and warped rotors into the mix...


I just had a Pursuit 24 CC, twin 150s, T-Top, dropped off at the house a couple days ago for a re-wire.  Pulled down here from Gainesville...with a V-6 Toyota Tacoma 4X4.  And it didn't look like the truck was sweating...

Friend of mine in Orlando pulls his 28 GW with a 1/2 ton Chevy.  Don't believe all you read on THT...

I've said it before.  That Jimmy we had at PL?  Could pull a house!!

Gotcha SB...but getting back to the 1800 HP outboard behemouth...what would you reckon it weighs?

I'm sure that it can be towed with something. But frankly, something that weighs 4X a tow vehicle freaks me out. Even though it may be rated to tow it.

Trust me Scott, hook up a GMC/Chevy 3500, a Ford F350, or a Dodge 3500 to a boat of good size, it's no big deal.  3/4 tons do almost as good.  Hauled the Doc's Pursuit back to Tampa with a 3/4 ton Ford 4WD...didn't break a sweat.  It's all what you're used to...

When I worked in the steel mills in Chicago, we used to get huge GE electric motors delivered to run electric blast furnaces.  The total rig weight was around 105,000 lbs.  So figure 10,000 for trailer, another 20,000 for the tractor...that leaves 75,000 lbs for the load it self...and it happens every day, all around us.  Think about that next time you see a truck from a battery supplier going down the road...

Around 12-13K...

If you're yanking around a 38 with quads, 5 motors, top, Myco triple axle, you'd be looking at 16.5-18K...
