gps question
« on: February 25, 2013, 04:01:46 PM »
I'm not real familiar with these gps units so this may be a stupid question for you. I just picked up a Garmin 182c gpsmap  I also got a Bluechart chip from a friend that will fit this unit for my area. My question is should I leave the bluechart in the unit all of the time? I'm guessing that the bluechart gives more detail that just the gps and that it should just stay in the unit but I don't know for sure. Thanks
My short-term memory is not as sharp as it used to be.

Yes and Yes.
If I remember correctly, the 180 series came with a base map. The area specific charts install on the bottom right behind that cover (but you knew that already).

Leave it in all the time you're navigating in the chart specified area.

Good luck.

Had a 180 series years ago but in monotone. I believe it might still be finding someones way somewhere.

Thanks guys, that was what I was thinking but I wanted to check just to be sure. I rarely leave my area to fish and if I do it's usually with someone elses boat.
