23 Intrepid
« on: September 01, 2015, 09:05:38 PM »
1989 model. My friend has owned it for probably a dozen years. Solid boat just needs some lovin!

Hull is totally sanded and ready for primer for the most part. Few gouges and nicks but nothing serious..

Keel needed a lil work

Recessing the bow eye

I think they call it a "246" with the integrated bracket. Great design if ya ask me, makes a nice catch all spot. Only wood is where the motor mounts and the trim tab area, all solid!

 Filling holes and fairing...

Where the cap and hull join together on the bracket is glued and tabbed on the inside, and on the outside they put some of that aluminum trim. Doing away with that and glassed the seam

Pretty sure the cap was laid up on a Friday afternoon. Theres a foam core in there which was not totally filled in the corner which led to voids and over time/beating on pilings etc put some nice cracks in the glass.

Stbd side. (not as bad as port)

Port...

Foam glued in and faired

Making patterns to cut glass. 2 layers of 1708 and some finish cloth on top to help in fairing. Some deeper spots got 3-4.
Tabbing that lil mini 3 piece cap into it as well. The liner recesses in there for toe room so they put that cap there...

Some glass and fair fair fair!

Made a lil guide before I started grinding. Tells me how close I am to original and shapes the fairing compound..

White e-bond over raw fairing

Primed the hull today. White primer would be too hard to see burn-thrus on a white boat, and the topcoat will be a super super light blue-white so I added some blue to the primer (a lil too much but...)

Awlgrip 545

Fairing continues...

Brought my tabbing fillet radius all the way down that sharper corner in the liner to tie it all in

Looks great Chris  :thumleft:  It was really windy up here, in blasts - too windy to shoot anything 'cept maybe a rifle/pistol.  ;-)

Boot stripe will break up the seam. No way i was gonna shoot the bottom and sides at once!   Plus we ddint have enough paint on hand.

Looks great Chris!  You're right, it's hard to see any blue in the hull sides (unless they changed their mind on the color).  Looks like you're stacking up some jobs.

22-2 flatback and 23 Seacraft?

The Intrepid looks great, those hulls are hard to find.
