propping a 246 ccp
« on: November 18, 2012, 08:52:55 PM »
Hello everyone.
I wanted to share some prop info in order to help others in selecting a prop.
I have a 2002 250 ox66 pushing the ol' 246 ccp (no cabin) with a bracket.
I have found that the 4 blade props are the way to go and keep me from using the tabs all the time.  Anyway so far the REV 4 from mercury seems to be the best. Right now I am slightly over-propped and will be trying the next pitch down when I can afford it.
Here are the run #'s inshore no chop. Approx 40 gal of fuel and one adult.
3400rpm - 31 mph
3800      -  35
4000      -  37
4200      -  39
4500      -  41.5
5000 max- 46.5

This is with a 21", I can get 5300 rpm if I trim up an extreme amount. I could bump the motor up a notch to allow for extra rpm, but I think I just need to step down to the 19".  Also when the boat is loaded it slows it down apporox 3mph from what is listed above.

I hope this helps some.
When I can try a new prop, I will add to this post

Please add your #'s too in order to help others!!!

Just bought a 19 degree Rev 4.  Once I get it on, I will post the numbers if anyone is interested. Maybe this will help someone out.

Thanks CE. :thumleft:

Posting prop performance was a big reason for the creation of this dedicated prop forum.

okay, I've been way too busy. I finally got to take the boat out for just a little bit today.
So far by dropping down to the 19p, the boat is way more responsive.  The throttle response is unlike any boat I have ever owned, I mean I feel like I added 100 hp to the back.  It also lift the boat a lot more due to the higher rpm.

As of right now with approx 60 gal of fuel. Light load, just me.
4200 rpm= 37.8mph gps

WOT with 2 adults 60 gal of fuel, = 5300 rpm @ 47.4 mph

so all in all, in comparison to the 21p: way more responsive, faster planing, boat rides higher out of the water. I'm very happy with the 19 rev 4 and would recomend this prop!!!!!!!!!!

Any idea of what prop I should put on my 25ccp evenrude 225 1998 model fresh rebuilt.

Right now it has a rusty 3 blade 14.5x17 and its a slow dog.
