They use a heat exchanger for the condenser that a pump cycles raw water through.

Well Scotty, all kinds of interest here on getting the BIG Miss D on the water...Miss D II?

Realizing the suddenness of her "rescue", the logistics and timeframe of the move, getting her settled in her new yard, getting the new partner fully up to speed on her, etc., etc., etc., obviously, not much is going to happen between now and Christmas.  But our whistles sure are wetted, so be prepared to hear a host of suggestions, a host of opinions, and a WHOLE bunch of...WHEN YA GONNA SPLASH HER!!!

Jon and JD, thanks brothers.  She's big enough we can take the whole gang on the splash :thumright:

SB, she has two 30 amp females on the cockpit bulkhead. You're thinking is correct regarding the A/C input.

Lew, to be totally honest, know zilch about marine air conditioning. Not sure if it has a chiller or not, but will find out.

Thanks for everyone's input :thumright:

SB, sorry lax on the picks....had a rep come in early and stay late today. Will be " hanging like a hair on a biscuit" tomorrow

nice lookin rig scotty! whats the weight/displacement?

May seem like a lot, but, assuming one uses 2/3 of the fuel (the 1/3 rule, 1/3 to get out and troll, 1/3 to get back, 1/3 in reserve), you'd be looking at around 270 gal per trip.  If you have 4 buddies (helmsman, 4 fishing/mating/gaffing/wireman), split the cost and at $4/gal, you're looking at a little over $200/man.  Not too bad, considering what you are doing...heading out to get some big eye, blackfin...

we've been doing $150-300/each on the contender, which is about $600 at my cost on fuel... gets us about 160 gallons

Aaron, thanks!

Per the marine survey....she's 15,000 pounds.

If had to bet....think the estimate is light.

Scott, being a Hatt, and knowing some boats in her size, I would be guessing 17.5-18K lbs...

That is my guesstimate too. They are famous for glass. The hull bottom is a solid one inch plus.

On these first hulls...legend has it that Willis Slane would go out to the shop, and give the newly-pulled hull a spinning back kick.

If it moved...add more glass.

Here are a couple pics I took about a year ago:

Here's an early Hatteras catalog/promo photo that should look familiar - that could be Scott's dad on the bridge - with little Scotty asleep in the cabin dreaming of King Mackerel:  :sunny:

She's a classic Hatt - those 60s Hatteras are built tough and strong.  Willis Slane, who founded the company, used to display a big Hatt (even his own 41 footer "Knit Wits") at boat shows supported by a single block under the keel - no other boat could do that!  It demonstrated the strength of the Hatteras hull.  :salut:  The first commercial Hatteras boats were built in 1960, with the company offering several models starting in '62.  These early Hatts were the first all-fiberglass motor yachts and set the standards for those to come.

Sadly, Brunswick bought Hatteras in the 90s and Dusty McCoy and company pretty much sucked the money out of the company.  Brunswick sold its Hatteras and Cabo brands to Versa Capital Management LLC affiliate Navis HCY Acquisition LLC in August of this year (2013).  Hatteras and Cabo are expected to stay in North Carolina and John Ward will continue to lead them.  John Ward seems to be a good guy, and we all hope Hatteras will return to it's position of leadership.  Hatteras' bread and butter for years has been 50 foot sport fishing boats, but that market has pretty much been taken over by large center console boats.  It will be interesting to see what happens with the Hatteras line.  The 90 footers actually are still selling...

Scott's boat would be a great lake boat or near-shore boat, but she might be hard to sell today with big-block gas engines - it seems everyone wants diesels...  :x   Now what if you put a couple used Cummins 6BTs from Dodge pickups in there?

Scotty how would a diesel conversion effect the attractiveness of a good resale?  Would there be anything left for the chicken fund?

Dave, it certainly would be a plus in terms of resale. The empirical question of course is...would it pay to do it?

When we first picked up the boat, knowing the tanks had to be replaced, and there was going to be a chitload of money spent...researched changing out the gassers. Back then, a set of remanned Yanmars were in the 30K range. That didn't include new running gear plus installation.

So if we had spent $40K to repower...when the recession hit, we would have probably been lucky to get 30 out of the whole package. She's a neat old boat, but not much of a following. Certainly not like a 31 Bertram or a 29 Blackfin, etc.

What really sealed the deal was the Pascoe article mentioned lately:

http://www.yachtsurvey.com/GasDiesel.htm

We talked about it just a few days back. All of the mechanical work has been done, the Crusaders were running great...we're gonna spin 'em and see what we have, and go ahead and run her. There is some interior work to do, also genset, AC, add microwave, etc.

The good news is I'm through spending money. My partner is going to bite the bullet on the rest of the $$$ as part of his 50% share :thumright:

No better way to have it Cap then with other peoples money  !! Juz wonderin..

Really nice hull shape in the way of a sport boat, with that house shape add a Harker's Island flare to it and that defines sweetness in itself!!   Who was the guy there on the island that made them famous, he did strip planking sheathed in glass like Ryboviitch, turning out one offs. Damn guy was an artist!!    :thumleft:

If you do a refit, I as a party of one, do not understand why there is a huge $$ difference between new and old..  Glass is glass and if mechanicals are new then I fail to see why damn close to top dollar isn't paid. Not new $$ but corrected for inflation yada yada..  If you can't buy it new for less then $3-500 why is $150 not reasonable.

Probably just me fellas,,, after a Sam Adams Ginger Double Stout.. At 8% it is a rugged stout and in a 20 oz bottle to boot..   :drunken:  :thumright:  :salut:

Mud in your eye!!!

Enjoy another Sammie!....a bird can't fly on one wing :thumright:

Two cents says you are thinking of legendary Oregon Inlet boatbuilder and Captain Omar (Omie) Tillet.

He introduced fiberglass-encapsulated strip construction in NC. We can't lay claim to the technique.  It was pioneered by Rybovitch, Whittaker, Spencer, etc in the great state of Florida. However...the now famous Mann's Harbor and Harker's Island builders added the beautiful varying deadrise and sheer  "Carolina Flare".  Omie Tillet was their inspiration and icon.

Here's the last Tillet produced:
