Title: 175 Osprey - Looking to strengthen up the gunwale?

Wondering if anyone else's gunwale (removable step) is falling apart? Looking to replace or re-enforce. Noticed the newer model 175's have an aluminum gunwale.

I would think replacing the coring would be simple enough to strengthen this insert. Then you can figure out how you want to finish the insert - paint with non-skid or gelcoat with non-skid or whatever you can think of. It is used as a step, so that is why it's beat up.
