170 questions

New to this forum.  I am considering buying a 1970 170 here in Tampa.  The hull looks good, I think.  Where is the fuel tank and how big is it.  I did not see any gas cap on the gunnel or fuel lines.  I think the guy was running it with an external tank. Any help or advice on rebuilding a florida classic would be appreciated.

My '71 170 has the gas tank under the center console and is 24 gals.  She's a great inshore boat and I've had this one for 19 years.
After you make your decision to buy and complete the transaction, post some pix of the boat and we'll be glad to offer advice on any repairs.

If the fuel tank is under the seat fwd of the console, the fuel filler is on the top of the console.  Good luck and post some pictures!

WE just finished restoring a 1970 17" Aqausport. Our tank is located under the center console. Leave me your e mail and I will send you some pictures. There are pictures posted in the photo gallery section of this web page. Good luck, it is a great boat!!!

I think in that era/size of boat, the original tanks all sat on the sole inside the console.
