File a suit in small claims court. Recoup some of your money.

I think I remember how the trip was to go - you were going to come down and pick it up and pit stop on the way back.  So how did it go down?  Did you have it shipped up?

I took bids from haulers for the trip down and back, pulling a new tandem. Found a guy that did it for 1k. The other bids were 15-1600.

Figured I'd have about that in it, and would miss work (I'm self-employed). So, let him go get it. Had already paid the old man in full. Never crossed my mind to have him inspect it. Took the old man at his word.

I feel like a fool. No, take that back...I am a fool.

If I sell the engines, I'm out around 4k, including the transport. Haven't titled the trailer yet, the dealer is a friend, hopefully he'll take it back, less some mileage money.

Fiberglass guy coming to give an estimate this weekend. Did not want a project....

I'm calling the Marco DA's office in the morning. I'm a fraud victim, but probably have no recourse. "Let the buyer beware" will be the defense.

As I said - this sucks
Surprised we don't have members down that far that could have checked it out for you.
If it went through Charlie I'm surprised it's around at all.  That was a wicked storm coming up the Charlotte harbor and then shot a diagonal up the state kickin a$$ all the way. Came within 25 miles of my house.

So "nice" old guys can be deceiving SOBs too?     Can't believe he misled that boat so badly!

I know this is kinda what you probably have in mind:
http://www.entertonement.com/clips/fvtd ... s-Wallace-

or, from the same movie:
http://www.entertonement.com/clips/jndg ... Winnfield-

But life ain't the movies, and ya just can't do that kind of stuff these days...

So check it out, post some pics, talk to some friends who work with 'glass, and see what it might take to get her fixed.  Heck, the engines are worth about what you paid.  But, like Marsellus Wallace, you still got screwed (and not even kissed first!).

22-2 from Marco, the plot thickens
« Reply #52 on: April 09, 2010, 01:16:14 PM »
EDIT: 19 December 2010 Part 3:

You guys won't believe it, I still don't.

Called the Merc dealer in Marco this morning to see if they knew anything about the boat. The service manager answered the phone, says thats funny, I have a 1976 22-2. So I had a new friend. Told him about all of the damage, etc. He said he would go through their records and call me back.

He called back a few minutes ago, said they had no record of the boat....but he said, you won't believe this, but about 2 weeks ago, a kid came in to buy a bow lifting eye for a 1975 22-2 Aquasport, plus resin, hardware, etc. The kid told the parts manager that he had dropped it off his Dad's lift, tore it up, and had to fix it so his Dad wouldn't find out. BECAUSE HIS DAD HAD JUST SOLD THE BOAT.

Can u guys believe it?

I'm numb again.

Just playing Devil's Advocate here.

Was not the owner 80 years old +/-?
He has a teenager/young adult for a son?

Gran,
Do the repairs look "fresh" or more in line with your hurricane theory?

Bob, turns out the "kid" is 50 years old. Can't wait for the old man to take his belt to him.

My glass guy says the "repairs" are fresh, matter of fact the  5200 is white like toothpaste, no mildew at all.

Thanks for the good thinking.

Hope we've got this SOB by the kahunies.

Marco Island Police Dept. is going to pay him a visit this weekend. Filed a swown statement this morning. The nice lieutenant is a fisherman.
