I found out he SUBED the work out to a guy who works for him detailing, which clearly has no experience in the glass biz, while he worked on the yacht. You could see it in his face when I went to pick it up. He did not monitor the build, assuming that his guy would be ok to do it!

He's still liable since your contract was with him. So, will he make it right doing it himself? or do you have to go the litigation route?

The boat is sitting om the trailer bunks. It is supported all the way from the transom to the curve of the boats. The bunks are probably 12 ft + long. then there is a support roller on the bottom. I will take pics today, I am going over there to sand all day long, Then you guys can tell me if you think it is supported enough!

To be honest I don't want him to touch my craft ever again. This project was supposed to take 1 month to complete and it took 4 and look what I got back. Unfortunately, it has to go litigation route, although in FL the small claims is 6k max which I will be happy with. I also think the judge has to side with me after seeing these pictures, whether or not they have any experience with boats. The pics of I have are no brainers!

This is the progress so far. I used the 4" angle grinder to grind out old stringer system. Now I am working on grinding out all the old stringer system he left behind and some of that "concrete like material". What a pain! It will take me a couple hours each day after work this week to get it all smooth.

Question: With all this grinding I am going to want to lay a few layers of glass down to help give this boat back its strength and some. How smooth should the hull be? Does it need to basically be as smooth as if I were going to paint it? Smooth enough not to have any jagged edges? Thanks in advance!

MD, this is how it i supported is it enough?

Chris,  I don't like to see those gaps between the bunks and the hull.  Were they like that before the original stringers were removed?  I see a lot of trailers with the bunks standing on edge but I prefer to see 2 x 6's laying flat with bolsters on each end and the middle.  The weight of the hull conforms the bunks then you lock them into place.  Plus, I like two bunks either side of the keel and rollers supporting the keel.

If it were mine, I would put in some temporary bunks.  You can use 1 x 6's between the keel and outside bunks (approximately under the stinger location).  Put in temporary bolsters where ever the trailer has a cross member.  Also, make sure the bow is well supported.  This maybe overkill but you have to be in the boat to do the work and your weight can cause the hull to twist, flex and warp temporarily as you move around inside. That can make measuring the conture of the stringers can be very difficult.

As for adding glass to the bottom after grinding is probably not necessary if you are not cutting into the woven roving of the hull.  The bottoms are quite thick.  If anything I would roll on a coat of epoxy to seal the polyester.  Do that no more the 24 hours before you tab in the stringers.  That way the tabbing will go wet on wet and thus a better bond.  Its like coating a plywood part before installation, seals and improves the bond.

Does anyone have a suggestion of how to support the hull/gunnels on the boat so it does not twist on me with the stringers out? I thought about 2 x 4's from left to right? Maybe Im way off I need some help. Thanks in advance!

Maybe I'm wrong since I never done that kind of a project but if you're not removing the cap why should you brace it ?

Because with the stingers out, the bottom of the hull can deform... there's no structure supporting the hull anymore.
