Rather than say "I'm weird", maybe you should have said "I'm wired".

As this appears to be a light-hearted thread, please forgive a momentary hi-jack:

The following photo shows what I like to call - in my blissful ignorance - "The Fuse Box" (directly above the battery, the black square with the red dot).

Two of the fuse containment devises are KAPUT and I believe the whole confounded contraption must be replaced. As such, two questions:

What manufacture/model is recommended to replace it, and where shall I obtain it ?

Oh and a third question, beg pard:  I am going to purchase a DIY marine electrical systems maintenance/repair guide and would greatly welcome any recommendations for a guide you have found useful and able to be recommended.

Thanks for any thoughts you may have, Cheers, and Dorge Gickle for everyone  :drunken:

Trace,
The fuse box was simply a plastic box like you can buy at HD and "built" to accomodate the fuse holders and breaker.  Basically, and enclosure...

Now, although I learned my trade "hands on", this book is what I recommend...

And BTW, that ground bus doesn't look too healthy...

Absolutely, Scott!  You know me and my feelings towards fuses... :x  :x

But sometimes you still have to use them, and, if so, here is what I recommend.  $26.10 from genuinedealz right now...http://shop.genuinedealz.com/Items/gim- ... ar%20Cover

Thank you guys for helping me get smarter on this;

SB4, am I correct in inferring that this IS one of those applications when the fuses should be used ?   I will get the box you suggested, as well as the book; thank you for your suggestion.

About the ground bus, please comment as to what remedies you suggest... disassemble, scrub, and reassemble, or just replace the bar with a new one?  I bet that newfangled book you suggested will help, duh :D

Thanks again for your willingness to share your knowledge.  You guys rule.  :salut:

Bob,
That's exactly the one I used from GD this past summer to re-wire everything from aft to under the console, very nice box, easy to install.  :thumleft:

I found a new site this eve shopping for a Bussmann Surface Mount breaker, Sails Marine.  http://www.sailsmarine.com/Home.aspx  Check it out, excellent prices on breakers...

Scott,
I get most of my stuff from GD, but I shop around for alot of things.  I love GD, don't get me wrong, but they are somewhat limited.  Sometimes the go-to guy is Amazon, go figure...

Marc,
I like that fuse block, despite my dislike for fuses.  I recommend them to just about everybody who doesn't have the room on a switch/breaker panel for more equipment...which is just about everybody.  And you know me, if it's going to be fuses, they are going to be ATO type blade fuses.  Can't tell you how many glass fuse blocks I have laying around that...well, I should just chuck.  Anybody wants them, let me know...

Trace,
Your busbar could use some cleaning up, but I would be more concerned with is the condition of the wires attached to it.  The green is corrosion, which will show up in the wiring as what I call the "dreaded black".  If you pulled one ground wire off that bar, any one, and cut off the terminal and stripped back some insulation, you would see what I mean...
