Been reading on here awhile and finnally joined. I have a 1988 222 ccp. I'm in Ohio on lake Erie and have no idea where the boat is from but do know who ever had it was very mean to it and I have a lot of work ahead of me. Will do some pictures when I learn how but it is nothing but a bare hull now with lots of glass and body work showing. Its hull # is aspa0821i788. I think it was the last one made on a friday and they ran out of resin as it's got lots of dry lay up. Glad to be here.

Great boat and pics

I will be picking up my (new to me) 1989 AQUASPORT 222 CCP.
I'm so excited to get to work on making this boat a daily driver.
Its been sitting for some time. Fortunately I'm schooled in the issues
that this situation causes.  I intend to do all the preliminary work
to ensure this vessel is good to go.

Nice crop of new CCPs to add to the list since the last update - 222 ccp dgraf, JoseGaspar, Plumbobber, Ideal, billsaquasport, Lynch 156, Sully_0063, hooked up - that'll jump the list by about 50%...thanks for taking the time to post :!:

It'll be a Weekend Update for the list...and if i left anyone out of the 'new' list, please let me know.  It'd be appreciated if wattever would take the time to post up his 250 CCP even though it is up for sale - the point is to build an information base on all CCP models and every contribution counts.

Thanks for the nice words, Sully - but seriously, the real credit goes to RickK & The Captain for providing and operating the site, the members that have posted step-by-step incredible rebuilds on a range of Aquasport hulls, those that have spent the time to walk through really useful custom additions/projects and the folks that are around to offer solid advice...and especially the people working to get the photo gallery back up and runnin'  :D.

I guess I missed this thread.  It's been a busy year and I have not participated so much (or had time for boats for that matter).

I am the second owner.  Original owner provide all receipts and paper work from the day he bought it.  Always been on the SW FL coast.  I have the receipts for every service, repair, FCC radio license (no longer required) and 1993 repower from day one.  First owner replaced the fuel tank in 1993.  I have the owners manual for the boat and the current motor.  It's not restored but I have been working on "refurbishing".  I did rewire it, replaced all pumps, lights, switches, hoses, thru-hulls, etc.  I modified the dash and rearranged the gauges and switches the way I wanted them including flush mounting the VHF.  I have most of the 10 coats of bottom paint off :roll: and so far just replaced what I have removed with epoxy primer.  The only bottom paint left is what's between the trailer bunks.  The only electronics it had was a huge old Furuno Loran C and a non-working VHF.  I replaced the captains chairs with a leaning post and 27 gallon bait well.  I took off the coffin box and transom mounted bait wells.  I mounted a 92 qt. Igloo marine cooler in front of the console for extra seating and storage and a 162 qt. Igloo marine cooler for a fish box.  I added Icom VHF, Garmin gps, Furuno 582L bottom machine with high speed thru-hull transducer, JRC radar, a smaller Apelco Loran C, Bennett trim tabs, fuel flow gauge, water pressure gauge, and a windlass with 500' of anchor rode.  Currently I have the fold down upper station and controls removed.  The welds on the upper station were cracking and I did not feel it was safe.  I had it re-welded once and it just cracked again.  I have a new upper station to put back up there someday.  On the bucket list is closing the transom, porta-bracket, re-power with something that isn't so thirsty, replacement of the ugly t-top with a tower, replace the halogen spreader lights with LED,  and a full paint job.  It still runs and fishes just fine, I just have not had the time or disposable funds to finish the project.

Just bought a 1983 25 CCP I believe these were still called 246,s but nice hull on an aluminum trailer needs power and floor work, but still excited. I will try to post some pictures.  Here is the info I have so far!

Eight CCPs have come on board for this update - with two more pending - to give a little better picture of this Aquasport line.  There is now at least one CCP model from every production year between 1978 and 1989.

A 'Contents' section has been added at the beginning of this thread that lists the contributions on a page-by-page basis, including what photos - and how many - can be found for easier reference.

I'll say it again...outside of Classic Aquasport, there's very little information anywhere - internet or otherwise - on these great hulls.

Here is a small video taken on a cell phone last week.  We were changing trailers and I was putting around while my boat partner was adjusting the bunks.  We've done some work, all new wiring, new rubrail, new GPS and SONAR, removed twin engines and replaced with 2003 225 Optimax and SmartCraft gauges, removed live well from rear of boat, new bilge pumps and hoses, removed bottom paint, removed gas tank-inspected and coal tared.  Boat is in shop, checking motor out, it had been sitting for two years while we worked on the boat.  Should be back on the water within the week.  I have some future projects in mind, but they will come during the off season.  It's past time to fish!

Hello all,
I am new to the site as a contributor/questioner, but I have truly enjoyed reading and learing about these craft. I own a 1985 250 CCP and because of the encouragement to come forth, I have stepped out of the shadows. I am in the proces of refurbishing the boat -- really my first real attempt at resurrecting a boat.
It is a 1985 and the console has a large metal plaque (aluminum?) that says Aquasport CCP250. It has the above deck fishbox but no chairs or leaning post. I bought the boat from a private individual in 2002 in Ft. Pierce Florida. I have had to keep it in storage all of these years as a multitude of things, mostly good, happened and this just got put on the back burner -- until July 24th, 2009; I pulled it out of storage, began to clean it up and started undertaking a great adventure.
In a nutshell, and I invite comments as I really don't have experience doing a project like this, I have pulled the console off, removed the gas tank cover (coffin cover), removed the fish box. The transom was enclosed by the previous owner -- it hasd been deemed done correctly by someone who does knowboats -- I will take their word on it. Aside from the gas tank lid, there are no soft spots anywhere on the decks. I have removed the plywood (soggy and delaminated) and relaced it with marine plywood, and several layers of West System epoxy  -- coating the wood with two coats, the fiberglass skin and a layer with Silica mixed in before placing the wood back in the skin, a layer of heavy mat followed by 2 additional layers of West System 209. It is about 80% complete now. The fishbox had multiple war marks all the way into the glass mat -- I can envision a mighty battle between a man and a 75 pound bull dolphin with the gaff through the thick shoulders flopping around on the deck as the fish overpowers the man on the way to the fishbox... hence, likely gaff marks on the fishbox.
Here are my plans -- I want to put a bracket on the transom -- again, I was told the transom was not an issue -- I would like to put twins back there -- I know the hull is rated for 300 horses -- what kind of trouble am I asking for to hang 400 back there? I am not a go-fast boater -- I just happen to have a pair of 200 EFI Merc's with 270 hours on each and an Armstrong bracket. Mid 40's is plenty fast for me so it is not a speed issue -- I like to cruise at 30-32 mph when the water allows that and we fish 40-70 miles offshore -- I have no desire to set a speed record -- but it is hard to convince my gracious and understanding wife that I need two other engines --
I am planning on moving the console forward 15" to get more fishing area and I have begun the job of cutting the front of the console so that the fishbox can set into the console about 5" -- thus the fishbox will move 10"-11" while the console will move 15 or so. I have built a platform that raises the fishbox about 2.5 inches to clear the flange around the base of the console -- remember the fishbox will actually sit back into the console so it needs to be raised. The fishbox will drain with the help of a macerator mounted in the console and dumping into the factory in-deck drain for the fishbox.
I have a custom leaning post that is sturdy, solid, but not flashy. It has a 4 rod rocket launcher on the back side. I am planning on putting the batteries (4 in all) inside the console to keep weight off the stern.
So, what might anyone think? Any ideas or warnings?
I do have several picture pre-work starting -- I will get my gracious wife to help me load them so that all of those words may make sense.
For now, I am pleased to be a part of such an elite group.

Doug, welcome to the board.  Glad to see another 250CCP owner joining the ranks.  I would caution about hanging 400 HP on a bracket on the 250CCP.  As you mention, the boat is rated for 300 HP and I wouldn't advise exceeding that.  Hanging that extra weight off bracket is going to put you pretty low in the water at the stern (I realize it is enclosed which is a good thing) and might put your skuppers below the water line.  Moving the console forward would certainly counter this, but for me....I wouldn't do it.  I have a single 2000 Suzi 200HP (2-stroke) on my 250CCP.  With 2 ppl. and no gear, I run 30 knots @ 5000 rpm.  With 8 -10 people and full fishing gear, I run around 26 knots @ 5000 rpm.

While I do wish I had a 250 hanging off the back, the 200 "gets the job done".  Perhaps you could trade in your pair of 200s for a newer single 250 or 300.

Just my 2 cents.

I'll second the welcome and add....
I have a full bracket on my 222. It's been in place for 13 years with no ill effects and the transom is just the way it came from the factory 25 years ago. I would feel certain that your boat could easily handle a full bracket as it came from the factory but..
 I myself would want to be sure that the transom had all the needed support to handle the extra load, especially where it attaches to the stringers.
That stated, the 200 mercs appear to weigh about the same as the 150s (at least where I looked) so the weight to hp is not a factor. Insurance? That might be a different matter.
I would think the boat would easily run in the area you seek and have some left over for "showin' off".
