had to get a new phone this week as my old one drowned at Egmont last week. i was gonna get the newer iphone but the guy at the verizon store talked me into checking out other smart phones before going to the iphone. he showed me one that was water resistant up to 5m deep: Casio Commando... he said its also cheaper than the i phone!

so far i love it, currently downloading the Navionics App

giv this phone a look next time yours goes for a swim! :salut:

We have the same phone  8)

I ordered mine yesterday, will be here tomorrow.  I like all the preloaded apps, like Tide Charts, Fishing Charts, Compass, GPS, Pedometer, etc.

The phone is Mil-Spec rated 810 G, so its tested waterproof at 1 meter for 30 minutes, stood up to 24hrs of salt spray, extreme temperature proof, drop proof, Sun proof.

A good phone to have for guys like us

yup! great phone I got it the first week they came out.  I had one of the first model Casio G'zone phones and I loved it.  That thing was bulletproof.  I loved it out on the boat.  Don't have to worry about it getting wet etc etc.  I left it on the back of my truck and it fell off in the road in the rain.  Some kid was making calls on it!  Verizon insurance sent me a replacement. Phone.  a few months later I got a Droid phone.  The instructions said I couldn't even have it in a damp environment!  So I had my old G'zone turned on as a back up phone that I could take out on the boat leaving the fragile Droid at home.  Man did I long for a Casio G'zone smart phone!  Then I heard Verizon was coming out with the Casio Commando.  I went straight to my Verizon store and ordered one.  At the time they were special order only.   The only thing I don't like is Verizon has it loaded up with fluff apps that I don't need and can't delete.  I have the Navionics app and it's GREAT!  I can tell you I just leave the thing on panel of my boat in the direct sunlight...  no problems!  I was out last week and I picked up the phone and it was burning hot!  I looked and the screen was nice and bright...  no problem.  My old Droid or a Iphone would have quit working.  I think it is rated for up to 180 degrees!  yikes!  The only bummer is the lack of accessories for it.  Also the stock case has a tendency to cover up the proximity sensor on the top right of the phone turning off the display during calls (it thinks the phone is against my head)

Granted this is no 4g speed demon.  But for someone with an active lifestyle like me and a job that exposes my phone to all kinds of harsh places it can't be beat.
