1974 Aquasport 19'6 needs trolling motor
« on: August 31, 2023, 04:39:36 PM »
AquaSport owners - I searched the site for over an hour and could not get a definitive answer on whether my 19'6 Aquasport needs a 60" shaft or a 72" shaft for the trolling motor for Texas Coast Inshore fishing... seas of up to 2' but usually just 1'.

Also, should I get a 80 lb thrust / 24 V system or the 112 lb thrust / 36 V system??  It will be one with GPS spot lock, likely a Minn Kota.

Thanks in advance for any help.  Would love to hear how each setup is working for current owners...

I would say it depends on how deep your pockets are. I also assume you are mounting on the front.
1) 60" is usually fine but if you have a lot of weight in the aft, maybe the 72" would be better.
2) The number of batteries, weight and location of storage for the batteries will be. 36V system is a lot of weight and there isn't a lot of places to store that many batteries on a 196 and not throw off the COG.

60 inch Minn Kota works for my 1972 19’6. 80lbs 24 volt setup with a Yardina troll bridge combiner. 3 footers and above is only time prop pops out of water once in awhile. Mine is a hand tiller and I sit up at the bow. In reality any 3 foot waves and above is like riding the bull so I usually don’t last long in those conditions anyways. Cheers T
