Stringers: Original vs Grid
« on: August 28, 2005, 08:08:03 PM »
I'm in the process of deciding which way to go.
Talked to Aquasport, and even though no one there was around when these original stringers were designed, they recommend not changing the original stringer layout.

Talked to some other guys who changed the original layout to the grid system, similar to the Gause Built lay out, and they claim this system provides a lot more hull strength than the original design.

What do you guys think?

I'm looking into the same thing. Local boat builder who has done this said that trapped water is a major problem with the original design. I like the grid system and will more than likely go that way making sure that any water has a place to go.

Both systems will have problems with water intrusion, inside the foam stringers in the original or in the foam filled compartments in the grid.

The problem is if you put in a hole for water to get out, then water can also get in.
