170 bow rail
« on: January 13, 2006, 08:01:10 AM »
Have noticed some of the 170's in our group have a bow rail, others don't.  Was it an option?  Was it removed just to allow for a more open fishing platform?

Stainless bow rails were an option on 170s, 196s, and 222s.  The vertical rod racks on the console were also an option, but most of them came with the rod racks.  The transom mounted baitwells were another option, along with several canvas choices.

Was the type of rail also and option? Haven't quite seen one like mine around.

I uploaded a picture of a 170 with the factory bow rail from the 1980 brochure.  Most of the rails from the 70s and 80s looked like this.

My rails are aluminum, not S.S.

Nice looking boat but it could use a few batteries in the back to make it look normal
