OK, let's see if we can break this down and make everyone happy.

Quote from: "Aquasport Commodore"
Thank you for replying but there is a lot of hypocrisy in the response let along this topic. ( I will probably get banned for this but I can not in good conscious let this go as I see it as a wrong that should be discussed and addressed at the minimum.)

First off, don't flatter yourself. the last guy that got banned here took an act of Congress. The guy before him was banned but it was before my time and I haven't a clue as to why so you aren't even close.

Second as far as speaking (or typing if we are to be precise) your conscious is good so let's get started.

Quote from: "Aquasport Commodore"
My post of the video was nothing of politics, yet you chose to make it that way due to comments at the bottom of the video. That is not my issue, under my control let alone your issue, but that of Youtube's. I don't understand why you would want to transfer that none issue here.

You see that's where we part. You have the luxury of knowing what is in your mind, while I only have the past guidelines of the Forum in which to base my decisions. I do not dig into things to justify my decisions but rather make them. I cannot possibly know what is in you head. Is it just the video? Is it just the thoughts implied. Again, I don't have that luxury. I have to serve the Forum based on all of the content. Maybe I wasn't clear on that.

Quote from: "Aquasport Commodore"
As for seeing my post being political, why did you and Rick comment in this thread viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12616 yet along let it go for 3 pages when it went way political and off bubble? The thread was started by a senior member so I guess that makes it alright. Again there is lots of hypocrisy here by you. Is this due to the pecking order here? You see me as a new guy and not having any rights as you guys do? What is the purpose of having a Chum section that is nothing about boats, as Rick has made many forums for those issues? Again I see Hypocrisy as to this board.

Now here's is one we do agree on. :thumright:
I was very torn on whether to delete Fitz's thread or allow it to run, WHY?????
Because Fitz is indeed a long time member but even more so........
Ferguson was (and still is) a power keg in this country. Letting something of this nature bloom on this Forum was against everything I do as a Mod but......
Again, I had to made a command decision as to how to best deal with this issue. Cut him off at the knees would be in keeping with my ideas of this Forums content (please remember those two words if you will) but was the timing right?

Let me step aside for a moment please.
Posting a topic really isn't time related (in most circumstances) but replying is. If one waits too long, the poster gets a feeling that the group is ignoring or places no importance on his post. Reacting too quickly may relay the wrong information or more importantly convey the wrong impression. That stated.

It was important, in my mind that the decision I made to allow this thread to continue (with the supplied caveats) would help reduce the tension members may have been feeling over this incident. Again, as a Mod, I made a decision (whether some members like it or not) to let that thread continue. Yes it morphed but again, did you yourself find it strange when the third biggest thread morpher (right behind me with Gran being the undisputed #1) spread a very touchy situation (again in my judgement as a Mod only) over the Forum and allowed us to discuss this edgy topic?

Personally, I think I made the right decision in this case (ya, I'm tooting my own horn) and I still stand by it.

Quote from: "Aquasport Commodore"
I am not attacking you, I am just commenting on the facts. I have copied and pasted the rules on this site and at no time did what I post violate those rules, but you tried to explain yourself and it did not do you any justice as to explaining your lack of standing. I understand that I did violate your made up as you go rules, which you change and alter as you see fit.

Your feelings are based on your presumption of my apparent authority. Here's where you are mistaken. I have no authority, power or agenda concerning this Forum. That's why I was asked if I would be a Mod. Not only the rules but the very fiber of this Forum were in place long before I even knew of its existence. I am however, given some latitude in making decisions for this Forum and believe it or not, I vet my decisions to the Owners before I apply them to the Board.

Quote from: "Aquasport Commodore"
This site is a wealth of information and history. It is a shame that more people do not assist with adding that information, let alone contribute as they have a lot. But due to your self centered egotistical self and that of Rick, you two have managed to shut down the site of interaction and membership growth which is a shame, let along chased away many a good members and those of some founding members due to your short sited ways.

Again we agree. Yet isn't that what the site is about? You can't please everyone. Follow your train of thought. Do you honestly (and be truthful) really care (in the overall scheme of your life) about what I think?

I've run off Founding members????? Name them.

This site has been in existence since 2005. I was already on my third Aquasport before it even existed. I didn't join until 2007.
Yes we agree on the point people don't like me (a very pleasant term). I wasn't asked to be liked but to rather keep what the original members wanted this site to be. Short sited?? Not hardly. I over think every important decision and post I make. Yours was no different no matter how you feel about it.

Quote from: "Aquasport Commodore"
CB, I reread you rely and just got it. You were offended by the video but you had no leg to stand on other than the made up as you go rules and pulled the mod card. OK as being a mod on other boards I get it. You have final say but there is no violation so what do I do as the mod and your standard MO? I make some rude comments, bully type statements and try to impress on me your vast educational experience as to the $100.00 chosen words you come up with to impress me. Sorry it doesn't work. I am a plain guy with a plain vocab. Just talk to me and don't be rude.

I'm not sure you did "get it".
I was as clear as I could honestly be in my response to your original thread. By mid afternoon I had received three PMs asking why I allowed it to stay rather than be deleted. It remained posted for 18 hrs and that allowed over 40 + members to view and see your post. The only response to me was "why it remained". You can believe anything you want but please try and understand this:
I don't make decisions based on people but rather on the Forum. That means I will never please everyone. That means some will be pissed and some will never get it at all.

Lastly, by now you should understand my position but if not, what more can I type?
As to my education, why bring it up?
Plain guy? Why do you feel that way?
I'm proud of the way my life has turned out. I'm from Perrine Fla. Look it up.
I've worked hard for everything I've ever got and damn proud of it but I digress.

Let's just say we both agree on the fact that we disagree.

I think the term "Politics" is a generic one here Kevin.  Anything that stirs up a conflict may be labeled as "political".  The post you made was, in your own mind, harmless and brought to focus what a LEO potentially can go through and signed up to possibly go through.  Hey, hats off to the LEOs.  But why post this here?  This is a boating site.  In today's environment everyone has an opinion on LEOs and law enforcement in general because it is rammed down their throat by the media every day. What is different, in that perspective, with your post.  Was it not slanted to one side?  I hope you see what I am talking about.

We have been through the "We should let the members run rampant and try to duplicate THT" several times and it has not happened and won't happen.  The new members I approve every day appreciate what we offer and the way we offer it.  We have good members here that offer the needed advice to whomever need it and a few even asked me to remove your thread because it was not appropriate.  What does that say  - your own co-members.

I'm open to all reasonable solutions, but being another THT is not one of them.

I have an idea.
I will make a members only forum that will give you guys a place to do what ever you want.  Everything outside of that forum will remain as is.
The only rules in the new forum will be to protect the site from lawsuits from copyrighted materials being posted and anything else that can cause the owners any grief legally (one of the owners is a lawyer). There has not been an issue of this since I've been the main Admin and Capt. Bob's been the mod.
I think we should assign Kevin as the Mod. Kevin, with this "power" you will be liable for anything legally in that forum.  You must make the daily decisions on whether each post meets the requirements stated above.
I will put warnings to members about to click on the forum that they may be offended by the materials, may be accosted by other members and in general are responsible for their own well being while in the forum.
I will create this forum in the next few days and we can become a "fun" place.  Hell, I can even let my hair down a bit in there while not worrying about offending our very young members.  I know CB will.
What name shall we use for the forum? Sharks den? Barnacle bucket? I'm open to the naming also.

Are you referring to my offer?
Actually it is going to happen - no need to suppress the general membership.  If anyone objects you should speak up now...

I certainly don't.

I grow weary of having to explain myself and what I was asked to do for this Forum. We have several members that feel that I infringe on some Deity given right so now you can put that to bed.

Why have a "Chum"?
As I always said.... For birthdays.

Exactly what will this new forum be called?

Rick, its not an offer. It's a slap in the face to Kevin. Who happens to be, in my opinion, an active and  valued contributing member of Classic Aquasport.

Your post was a satire, a play on points previously made. "So Kevin, I'm going to make you moderator of "The Bilge". No place lower than the bilge. You guys post whatever you like, but Kevin assumes legal responsibility independent of CAS".

C'mon.

I'm looking to gain membership...not lose it.

Time to remedy this rift ASAP and move forward. Its Christmas.

Why don't you call the new forum "the hull truth"... that's where pissing matches like this belong.

Get it together people, from the get-go, everyone knows the intentions and "values" this website promotes and usually practices. I missed the initial thread/video/whatever, but from reading this, its fairly obvious that the video hit some issues/points that area either mis-placed on a website like this,,, or would be better suited on a different forum. (not disputing the importance or respect that LEO's and military should have/get, by any means, or down playing EITHER side of that card).

this webpage has grown and morphed though the years- adding sub categories to help find specifics on boats or motors or other boat related topics easier, the mods do a great job keeping things on point, but it is a BOAT/Aquasport based webpage. I was always under the impression the "CHUM" forum was for "general" boating/boater" related posts- there is no need to dissect what the forum limits area and delve into the "well its a general forum so I can post what I want"  mentality.

Scotty you are a great person and friend and I must say thank you very much. As I also have made my point, and I shall be done. No more replies from me as I see that nothing will change and no opinions will be heard other than what is already here. My video was not on the lines of THT, it was what the people who protect you everyone day and night face and that has been turned around nothing more. I asked questions using the rules provided here and was attacked and replied in kind. That was very wrong of me and I am sorry for the heavy response but not of the response in it self. There needs to be changes on the way things are done here and I am not one who will be a part of that change as I see it now. I bid you all a Merry Christmas and hope your families are well and have more days ahead of fun and Aquasport pleasure.

I bid you all a goodbye
The Commodore

Scott to clarify a few things,
I assume all liability for this site and what happens and/or is posted on it every day. But I get questioned periodically by some members on why we limit what is posted here and not let the four winds blow.  I asked CB to help me keep it clean thus helping me in the liability issue.  Does he take any liability, no, I have it all.
Offering a new forum where members can blow off steam is not a new thought, I just hadn't thought that we really needed "to go there" yet, too many people like L2F have told me in one way or another that they like what we offer and how we offer it.  But apparently we have some members, you included, that would like this freedom (to grow the membership) but yet not assume any of the liability with the exception of being an "adult". Sometimes we, as adults, still have tunnel vision and don't look at the big picture. The innocent post that started this is another example of this "adult defect".  So if I offer the new forum so members can "be themselves" it looks like I have to assume all the liability again because to offer the liability to someone else, one who wants to stretch our moral fibers, it is construed as a "slap in the face" - nice. I now have to think this over again.

You mention membership, the membership continues to grow daily, I know because I approve each member through due diligence and catch the bad guys at the door.   I have been getting on average over 200 applicants daily, about 99% are spammers. The average member wants to come here to gain the knowledge they seek, relax and learn about their boats. Most never post, they get what they need and some hang around and some leave - it is what it is.  Some members only come here to post their boats for sale and then leave. No different than most sites I suppose.  Members come and members go.
Some like to post and help others, me included.  I and others have spent a ton of time documenting our efforts on our rebuilds for others to learn, nothing else would drive us to do this. We're not making any money expending this energy.
I and others have worked hard for what we have here at CAS and I for one, am proud of what we have become over the years. If something needs to be changed I'm all for it if my liability doesn't have to go up.  If the general opinion of the members say we should not "go there" I will defend the site wherever needed - after all, I OWN THIS SITE!!
I think we can close this thread, as being an owner it is ultimately my decision on how much exposure I want us to be at.  Thanks for listening and happy holidays.

Congratulations on your purchase of Classic Aquasport.

I too have tried to work hard for the benefit of this site.

I personally don't feel we need a "Bilge" but if you do, no prob, you're the Captain.

Yep, I'd delete this thread. Been enough blood-letting here.

When I was in the seventh grade there was this guy that pestered me all of the time.  It finally reach the point that we got into a really good argument and then the fists started flying.  It wasn't long before we both knew neither was going to give up and we would both be pretty sore, so we stopped.  After the fight was over, we shook hands and turned out to be best friends.  I often have discussions with my wife about how different men and women are.  She says, "Yea, men just duke it out and it's over and done with."  For women it is like an elephant, they never forget.  I didn't get into this discussion as it was going on. It was easy to see both sides had some valid points. "The Commodore's" closing signature was a goodbye.  I hope that was meant to be, "Until next year."  Everyone has had their say and that is a good thing.  I would hate to see The Commodore go away mad.  Put all of this behind us.  Everyone got their punches in and now is the time to shake hands and move forward.  Aquasports are a unique boat and so is this site.  It is the people that make this site unique, and we all share a common interest. Christmas more than any other time reminds us of forgiveness, and so, may all your stringers be dry and your decks be solid.
