Title: Hanging new outboard
Post by: Aquasport17 on April 07, 2019, 09:19:07 PM
Well guys. I'm taking my 85 johnson and installing it on the 170. Problem is not sure what old outboard was on it prior to me owning it. Only one bolt lines up right. I.need to find a template to drill new holes. Want to get it right the first time. Thanks for any pointer guys

Google is your friend.
You will find the template for your motor there.

Good luck. :tu4:

I remember that the old '70s merc I had on my boat had a much narrower engine bracket width that the one on the next engine I bought ('90s Evinrude).  The standard changed along the way.

....or make your own template by taking a square of cardboard, placing it behind the bracket, then mark the holes thru front of bracket.

Ok so I got the outboard mounted. But looking at it on the in the cut for outboard. It sits offset a bit. I measured and it 6 inches on one side and three the other. But the outboard is square with the bottom drain plug. It just makes no dam sense at all. I'm thinking it square put measurements say otherwise.

Does it measure centered from the side of the hull on both sides?
