BBQ 01/2012
« on: February 01, 2012, 04:29:16 PM »
Had our annual unofficial Steelhead fishing derby and BBQ Saturday on the river bar.
Had 2 smokers going, one with 5 turkeys, other one with pork ribs.....I was in charge of the ribs

Just about done

Forgot to take some photos of my buddys turkeys, just about the prettiest dead birds ya have ever seen.
Also had some of Capt Johns bbq sauce made up,good stuff : :thumright:
Just our way of getting through a cold, damp, grey winter day in the N.W.

Use wild cherry, mostly because it's easy to come by for nothing. Lot of wood stoves for heating of homes in this neck of the woods, most people don't want to mess with cherry because it is too much work to split. Always wanted to try pecan but there aint such a thing in these parts. Most the hardwoods like alder, maple, oak get burned in wood stoves.
Friend of mine called a couple months ago, said he was clearing some land for planting of raspberries, asked if I needed some wild cherry for smoking, told him you bet. I got home that night and in my driveway was a dump truck load of cherry  . got enough cherry to last for years.
