Good day of fishing on Friday
« on: July 01, 2012, 07:29:56 PM »
My father hired a guide to take a few of us out on Friday.  We went out with Sam Kimball.  We had a heck of a trip.  We went about 25 miles outside of Longboat pass.  We caught fish on every spot and almost every drop.  The weather was great, water was smooth as glass and we had great company.  We caught almost every type of snapper the water had to offer, plenty of red grouper, a couple of porgies, and a small jack that was good eating.

Anybody have Dramamine?  It was smooth as glass.

The catch.  Not bad for a days work.

This one has something to scale off of.  We caught two firetrucks of this size.  One was caught by two people on board at the same time.

Here is the mate with one of only a couple of gags that we caught.

Awesome catch!  Next time, bring the water skis when the bite is off... :thumright:  :thumright:

My buddy and I used to run 25-30 miles straight out of Longboat in his Wellcraft 18 Fish, 130 Yam.  Summer mornings were like being on an inland lake at the crack of dawn...

You did see some ARS.  We didn't catch any huge sows.  But they were decent sized.  Mangos were out in force too.

Awesome! A day like that is why we go fishing!

We caught them on a mix of cut sardines, squid, and greenies.

Thanks for the compliments guys.  We had a fantastic trip.

Dang, Scott, that is downright poetic.  I like it.

It reminds me for some reason of Gus McRae in Lonesome Dove.

Gus, a hard scrabble cowboy and original Texas Ranger, had acquired some university education as a young man.

Discussing bandits and thieves and gunbattles, Gus  proclaimed at one point,

"Just once I would like to shoot at an educated man !"

Not that I want to shoot at you, I just admire your phrase up there.

Thanks Trace and Bill !!

Alas, I cannot take credit for this. An appreciative lady customer needle-pointed this saying and gave it to me as a gift, which possibly contributed to the demise of my first marriage.

Nevertheless, this quote is by Scottish politician John Buchan, their version of Benny Franklin.

They are the yummy kind!  Mostly they are red grouper, endangered American red snapper, mangrove snapper and a few others for good measure.  The guide and mate filleted fish for about 45 minutes.  Fresh tempura snapper over a nice bed of greens, it don't get too much better.  Except for fish tacos!   Now we are talking a treat.

Scott, that is an outstanding site, Brainyquote.com !!   I was in there for a minute or two when I found this one that I choked laughing on, from who else but one of my favorites of all time:
