That's good news.
My concern (maybe unwarranted) is three fold.
1. The parts numbers from online sources for my model year are different than the eBay numbers.
2. The gauges I have don't look exactly like the ones shown. Of course that doesn't mean they won't work.  :|
3. Recently a member here bought what appears as the same gauge as shown on eBay and it did not work on his motor (Yamaha). It's still currently for sale on our Classified forum. :o

I'm upgrading my battery cables first but my gauges are getting hard to read so replacement is on the horizon (failure is definitely due to excess sunlight). :x

OK I'm tight with my coin so sue me. Then you'll really find out how poor I am.

Bob,
The difference between the gauge type is how the data is shown.  The old had the pretty colored icons at the bottom of the gauges.  The newer have the bars above the functions.  The signal received is the same through the harnesses...

If you're still not sure, call a Yam dealer...

Yep,
That's what I got. A little thermometer, an oil can and a battery (I believe).
If the gauge doesn't care if the motor is carbed or fuel injected then I should be OK.

Bob,
You have two harnesses running forward from the motor to the helm.  The first is the main engine harness, 10 or 12 pin, plugs are circular, helm end plugs into the plug at the key switch.  The second harness is what we call the "Tach" harness, 2 plugs at either end, they plug into the plugs coming off the tach (hence the name), with the pigtails (blue, red, green, black, yellow) tying in the speedo.  The fuel management gauge has a harness all it's own coming off the senders aft...

On my tach gauge for oil I have 3 icons, green yellow and red.  I have tried to replace the guages before but the ones I bought were not compatible.  Luckily I could return them (Marine Surplus). So I am leary until I can confirm - I'll know more this morning.

This is the "Tach" Marine Meter.
When the remote tank is full, it shows green, low level in same tank yellow and red when the oil isn't flowing for some reason (lack of or pump failure) correct?

The other gauge is a multi meter also that shows the fuel quantity on a bar graph. It has those little icons along the bottom. I think the "gas pump" one flashes to indicate low fuel, the "battery" when it's under charging? and the "thermometer" when it overheats. It has buttons on the bottom for different settings but mine is on speed. Guess you can check the time and some other stuff but I never really mess with it. Yamaha lists this gauge as obsolete and if I'm understanding SB correctly, it has been replaced with the fuel management system gauge.

So the key is getting a "Tach/Trim/Oil" setup that wires in.

Here is my Tach Gauge:

The back of Tach

Here is my Fuel Gauge:

The back of Fuel Guage and where it gets weird - SB to the white phone

See the "hose" looking thng at the bottom of the gauge with the zip tie on it?  It goes toward the back of the boat - no connection to a harness like the tach - almost seems like a water pressure line but I don't think so.

The splicing between the gauges is what concerns me - SB what do you think?

Talked to Karl at that site and he said "sorry - not compatible (connectors are different) and no replacements are available".
EDIT: BTW - he also said that the gauges he has on eBay are for '95 and later.

Rick,
I could be wrong but the tube with the tie is for the speedo. Not real sure where exactly the pickup is located on the lower unit but when I replaced my impeller, I needed to disconnect the hose to drop the lower unit. I find (not really surprising) that the accuracy is not the greatest.

I do believe that the tach unit is still available

These are part #s I've run across so you can understand my lack of certainty on what is what.

Here is the blowup you need - parts 1 & 12 (At least for my engine - should be the same for yours?)
http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Outboard/1991/250TXRP/OPTIONAL%20PARTS%20GAUGES%20%26%20COMPONENT%20PARTS%201/parts.html
The Tach is the critical part and the connectors were changed, shortly after our units were made, to a square one. You're right about the speedo, the tube is for air from the LU.  Try this part# 6Y5-83500-29-00 for the tach.

The Tach is available (I think there is one available so they say, in the queries I've made) but not the Speedo - you have to use the one SB was talking about and it is compatible, they say.  It's the one that is in the speedo link on page one so I've been told (6Y5-83570-S5-BK). There is an extra pair of wires coming out of each gauge which I'm not sure what they are - maybe for lights?
