A lot of manufacturers will do that in factory, i.e. put a spacer in there so they only have to make one trunk and lower unit housing for two motor sizes. That said, the innards (drive shaft etc) are sized for 25” and it’s not as easy as just taking a spacer out unfortunately. Ask your mechanic about the specifics... it may be as simple as swapping lower units, but probably not. Not sure about yours, but often the impeller tube is mounted at the power head, not gear casing, and that needs to be the correct size too.

And yes - the boat and motor market up here is CRAZY right now!

:salut2: I now have a 20" lower unit from same motor. The 25" that I took off is in excellent new/rebuilt condition, shaft and all. Looking to sell 25" if anyone interested.
My next step is replacing gas tank I removed from under floor. Buy new, have fabricated, metal or plastic, etc.??????
