Oil slick on Yamaha F225
« on: August 14, 2020, 11:17:37 AM »
This boat is new to me so I'm still figuring things out. Just before I picked it up it had an annual service including oil change. When fishing I have noticed that thin haze of oil on the water off the back of the boat. When flushing the motor last weekend I noticed a bead of oil on the lower unit where the lower cowling ends (circled in yellow in one of the pics). Today I removed the cowling to get a better look. There's nothing obvious going on. Not a ton of oil anywhere and the dipstick says it's full. There are what look like vents on either side (also circled in yellow in the pics) and I'm wondering if it could just be excess oil from the change venting into the lower cowling space. Any hints?

First, me thinks the mechanic might have spilled some oil either in the removal or fill.
Just a guess.

Second, you got the Gallery pics down. Now when you go to post, use the "image" rather than the "thumb".

Us half blind old guys thank you.  :old01:

Good luck. :thumright:

Thanks for the reply. That would be a relief. I want to pull the cowlings back off and just scrub everything down. Oil slicks off the back of the boat can't be good for fishing.

And thanks for the tip on images
