Evinrude Ficht 2000 225 need some help
« on: July 20, 2019, 11:03:06 AM »
Need some help with this Ficht - Wont start when key is turned, it does crank & fuel pump keeps running, has 20 psi at the schrader valve with key on & also while cranking. I believe it should turn off after 10 seconds. It will fire right up when carb cleaner is sprayed in to the throttle bodies and runs perfect until you turn it off and try to restart it, then the same thing again.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. This is mounted on a 1986 Aquasport 22.2 CCP Open fisherman

Thanks in advance  :c017:

fuel pump does running does not mean the injectors are working. You need the software and a laptop to work on these. The newer etec software will not play nice with the ficht stuff either. I have a 225 ficht that I sent the computer off and had checked. mine is good if you want it. these engines will show codes just like a car. these engines were notorious for cooking the water cooled computer that runs them I would recommend another engine. any other engine. Not many people know how to work on them anymore and the ones that do will not work on them.

Well if it continues to run after you shoot starter fluid in it and as HH2 stated, pump running doesn't always equate to injectors injecting, maybe you aren't getting enough current while cranking to activate the injectors. :ScrChin:
Once running, the engine RPM is high enough to produce the current needed to both cause and keep the injectors working.

This is purely a logical guess since I know absolutely nothing about Ficht technology. It just seem to make sense to me. Might try a fresh or larger battery. The older carbed Jonnyrudes required the motor to spin around 300 rpm to fire the plugs. I'd guess there is a threshold voltage needed to get the injectors to also work so....

Good luck. :thumright:

I understand the ficht bumps up the 12 volt starting circuit to 40 volts (the start assist circuit) . where can I
check it and what bumps it up to the 40 volts - I'm trying to figure should I be chasing the excessive fuel
pump run time with key on, or what else?
