You can turn on the "quick post" in your profile. I use it most of the time.

They drive me nuts too.....for the life of me I can't find the "quick post" setting in my profile. Can you give me a clue please?

Profile/look and layout/ 2nd from the bottom. Turn it on and it'll show up below the last post.
