What's in a name?

The boat name is "Gone Fission" - I work in the nuclear industry - get it?   :wink:

I've had people come up to me at the dock and ask if I knew the name on my boat was misspelled...   :roll:   Once I explain, they usually smile, shake their head, step back, and walk away mumbling about "glow in the dark" or something...   :lol:  

Other nuke-related names I considered were:
- Scintillation - nobody would probably get it...
- Neutron Blonde - wife's a blonde, but she didn't like it...
- Atomasport - done in letters like the classic Aquasport logo - nah...
- Quantum Leap - describes the boat's purchase - but didn't work...
- Nuk'em - too hawkish...  
- Blue Glow - I kinda liked it for a while and would have done the bottom and trim in bright blue instead of teal, but decided against it...
- High Rad Cafe - done in letters like Hard Rock Cafe (stole the idea from the cafeteria at Zion) - but no...
- Catch Blinky - Blinky is the name of the 3-eyed mutant fish from the Simpsons - no one would get that either...

So I settled on Gone Fission - but every boat name should have a story!

Glad you chose "Gone Fission" ....always liked that name!

Although "Neutron Blonde" would have been kinda....er....HOT :mrgreen:

The people that come up to tell you that your boat name is misspelled are the same people that think Chernobyl & Three Mile Island are just hot buffalo wing flavors at Wild Wing Cafe or Buffalo Wild Wings.

It amazes me how many people can't put two & two or a basic pun together.

I like it. My 290 is [was] Doc'd Up. Wife is a doctor.

I considered (and she vetoed) various other iterations such as Rubbing the Doc, Bumping the Doc, etc :-)

Gone Fission is a great name.  Maybe a little atomic atom next to the name would help get the idea across.

Salt, another name I'm sure the wife would have certainly hated:  Doc Rash

It took me a while to come up with Nauti Hooker.  There were a few people that thought it would be inappropriate, but when most people look at it they smile and give me the thumbs up.

In coming up with the name I remembered that you never name a boat after a woman, and then I read a lot of articles about naming boats.  I wanted something clever and began down the "reel" series, but anything I could come up with was already being used (I found a search engine of registered boat names).  When searching, I came across nauti (being used for nautical) and since I like fishing, hooker.  Then my sign guy took over and added a traditional anchor for the t and the hook under line.

King of the C's... "C" for my last name and the apostrophe because I have 2 boys.  Its also an obvious play on the word "Sea's"

A Jewish friend named his Hewes "The Shining Star", but didn't realize the spelling until another friend asked him what the hell is a "Shinning Star" after he had the name for several months.

I'm a major Miami Hurricanes fan...........I goota show you a picture I had two decals made for my 1985 19'6 aquasport
picture this: the "U-boat" I did the "U" in orange and green and the BOAT part in block military letters with shadow
it looks awesome not going on the boat until I paint her!!!!!!!!!

In the case of my friend's boat, it was misspelled and the owner didn't see it until it was pointed out to him.

Regarding how people are amazing, maybe one of them is a friend's coworker (Hillsborough County School system) who asked her if there were 5 quarters in a year. Fortunately, they are not in the classroom.
