Title: Mercury Optimax 225 Air Compressor Replacement
Post by: j.white on June 24, 2020, 06:56:17 PM
I need to replace the air compressor on my 2005 Mercury Optimax 225. I got the new compressor and it looks exactly like the old one except for 1 fitting. The "top" fitting on the crankcase side is not in the same location on the new one as the old one. To top that off, where the fitting should be is a threaded port. I counted and checked all of the fittings from the existing to the new and everything lines up except for that one.

The parts dealer ordered the part from Mercury using the motor serial number. I double checked the part number from the Mercury Catalog and it is also the same. So my questions are:
1) Is it possible that this is the wrong part?
2) If it is correct, what should go into that threaded fitting? Is it just an empty port?

From what I could find out, the fitting has been moved.  Hooked everything up, primed the oil system and fired up the motor this morning.  Everything checks out and works as expected.
