Trim Tab switch location at helm console
« on: July 16, 2011, 09:41:57 PM »
Well I am almost ready to install the switch for the tabs, but before I do, I would like to know where you would put it and why.

I am looking at either the right or left of the throttle.

The blue tape is where I was thinking about putting it.

down and to the left of the wheel,so you have an easy reach to it while underway, where the tape is a pretty far reach across the console, get into your normal driving position and see where it is comfortable for you to operate :salut:

mine is the black box,to the left of the wheel :salut:

I like having the hand on the throttle and being able to operate the tabs at the same time...I've got tabs, throttle, and trim all in the same grasp...but then I like to go fast!

I agree... I put mine between the wheel and throttle, easier to reach it when running, and keeps it more "compact":

lilRich,

How are the KE-4s treating you?  A lot of folks looking for electronic controls at a somewhat bargain basement price over i6000s or i6003s...

I'm left-handed. 94% of the population is right-handed. So would set it up exactly as you have marked. Good work.

For what it's worth, mine resided the same as several others and for the same reasons. Between the wheel and throttle.
Also right handed.

I don't have tabs, but I've been conteplating adding an additional tilt-trim switch to my console strictly because it's difficult to adjust the trim with the existing switch at the top of the thottle lever while underway in seas without regularly knocking the throttle out of position.  If you have a larger boat, then it won't matter quite as much because your boat will be more stable than mine, but the principle is the same.  Every time I take my hand off the throttle or wheel to do something when cruising I feel like I'm taking a risk.  I agree with seabob as well, so rather than add to the right of the control where your tape is, I would add the switch directly above or forward of your throttle so you can still grasp the base of the throttle between your thumb and forefinger while reaching forward to adjust the tabs.

I agree with seabob4....... Mine is located to the left next to the ignition.

As of right now, I am leaning to putting the switch between the steering wheel and throttle.  I don't like the switch being below the helm, and theres not quite enough room to put it above the throttle.  If there is, that would be a great idea.  I'll check when the deck is cured.

If you don't have the room above, then to the left where you can use your thumb to operate while at speed might accomplish the same thing.  Good Luck!

They've been great, knock on wood.  Have you heard of any issues?
