115 hp or 90 hp..?
« on: March 11, 2012, 06:01:33 PM »
I have the option to use a 90 hp or a 115 hp Evinrude on my AS 170. Keeping in mind of the weight which engine would you use?

Thank you

I have had several engines on my 170 and the 90 should be fine. I have an "alleged" 115 on mine now and it will hit 40.  I say "Alleged" because I bought a rebuilt and only the mechanic that jetted the engine knows for sure what it is. The 90 and 115 are usually the same block, just different jetting in the carbs.

As far as the jetting is concerned I was just talking to someone who just told me the same thing. I think I will go with the 115 b/c the weight is the same. The 70 I had has been rebuilt and completely painted inside and out. It looks factory new but the paint is the newer Evinrude Blue Flake. No decals have been applied.

Thanks for your post.
