Motor off and bait boxes removed.

Something I found as being weird was a drain plug right in the middle of where the motor was mounted.  Is it just me or does that not seem right?

My first 22-2 had three drain plugs, exactly where yours are.

I think you can see the evolution of motors on that transom looking at the holes that are filled.  The motors back in the year the boat was made were much narrower and you can see the holes get wider until the latest motor holes.

My 72 19-6 has three drain holes. If you think about it. It made sense. These boats decks and drain well sit low. Soon three drain holes will help it drain faster. But you could also say. They let more water in. :thumright:

Finally got the boat to a buddies shop so the demo can start.  For now I will be attempting the demo on my days off when possible.

So the big question is, where do I start with the demo?  Anything in particular first, second, etc...?  What do I need to save or toss.  Any insight into this would be great, thanks.

Take the floor out first. Set the skilsaw to 3/4 inch depth, leave a 1.5 inch lip on the hull sides; you can make a decision on this edge later on.

Leave the rear skin on the transom. Cut out the inboard fiberglass side of the transom.

Run a chalk line on both sides of the stringer tops, take a skilsaw and cut off the horizontal tops of the stringers. You want the very top cut, no more.

Take a machete and narrow shovel to the stringer foam, toss it and all of the plywood, including the transom plywood. Then get out the shop vac.

Recently the guys have sandblasted the interior hull at this point, rather than grinding old substrate. Darn good idea, a real time-saver, and they've been pleased.

There are many rebuilds here with great pics detailing what you have in front of you. She'll go smooth.

Best :thumright:

Welcome to Itchy Town!  I know its summer and its smoking hot but a paper suit or even jeans and a long sleeve shirt will help keep the itchy dust off you.  Good luck!  :thumright:

Thats funny, the shop I dropped it at, the owner even said "let me know what size suit you wear."  Getting at the fact that the fun is about to begin.

A little progress.  Got the console off the deck and gutted all the cables and wiring.

Just about power tool time. Block her up nice and level in a place you can do most of the build. I used styro blocks and wooden shims. You want to keep the original shape of the hull. Block her up as low to the ground as you can as you will be climbing in and out thousands of times.
Good luck

Taking out the deck really wasn't that hard, even though I am severely power tool challenged. Putting it all back together professionally was what made me balk. The supplies get very expensive at that stage and I just had to punt it to a pro. I do think that I saved a ton of dollars doing most of the demo myself though. That was just a matter of elbow grease, and kind of fun, in a medieval sort of way :)
