Is a 1968 vintage 22.2 a good boat?
« on: March 11, 2005, 10:03:41 AM »
I am real close to buying a 68/69 22.2 for a restore. From reading the posts it sounds like the 22.2 was modified often during  production.  Is there a year model that I should be going after? The boat had work on the transom and the floor seems to be ok.  Just trying to get some insight before I commit.

Its great if that's what you are looking for.  Folks around here love thier flat backs.  After '73 they had a little more deadrise.

Welcome gotoml! Sounds like a good purchase to me if you're willing to put some elbow grease into it.

gotoml - 1968/1969 AS 222 flatback. I'll bet dollars to donuts the stringers are full of water. I drilled a 1/4" hole about 4" above the hull (1970 222) in one stringer and it drained out water for a full day.

Take a look at Capt. Flatbacks posts in the photo gallery. He just posted some shots of a 1969 222 rebuild that came out great.
