Osprey 225 Starboard list

My 1999 23.5 Osprey has a starboard list. At rest there is about a 2-3" difference along the water line. The previous owner took out the hard top leaving the opening open, water infiltrated the deck. I know I need a new deck. but first the list.

Can I assume water got into the right stringer too? The hard top holes were open on both sides but no list on port.

a. How do I check the right stringer for water? what is the best access point?  Is it the stringer, or do other owners have the same problem with this model?
i. does anyone have the stringer layout plans?
ii. anyone know someone on Cape Cod that does this work?


b. Also, any recommendation on keeping the bow down to better meet the oncoming waves. I was thinking of placing a large water bladder in that huge bow compartment to keep the bow pointed down into the waves, any thoughts?

I will assume water infiltration into the stringer is not the cause for the list.  I do trim tab it to level at high speeds its the only was to avoid flipping.

Do you think its just a balance issue?

That seems like a fair amount of difference. Water could be in the stringer foam which can cause a good amount of weight. SOP on older hulls is to drill a hole at the base of the stringer as close to the transom as possible and look for water to drain. If the boat is on a trailer, lifting the bow will let the water permeate toward the stern.

ok Cpt. Bob, I will drill the hole to see if water drains from stringer.  how did it get in there?  the bilge is dry after every run even in heavy seas.

I may have misread your original post. I was under the impression that the mounting of the hardtop had penetrated the stringer top.

Are both your batteries on the starboard side?

at least one is and the other is a mid ship slightly to starboard
