Nitty Gritty on Bracket on 222 ..
« on: April 04, 2005, 10:02:02 AM »
I raised the transom to 25inches and am putting a carbed
Yam 150 on a 1971 222. Was planning on bolting it onto the
transom.

The glass guy that is helping me is telling to consider closing off
the transom and putting on a bracket.  The standard 29inch one.

I love the protection that it gives and the look, and the double wide one
will be a nice swim platform but am concerned about
how it would affect the ride.  My 55 gal . tank is pretty much under where
the above deck tank went, maybe a bit forward.  The front of the console seat will double as a livewell and cooler. I still need to position the console.   I may put a bigger livewell behind the leaning post occassionally(removable).

The last thing I want is the boat to porpoise or the hull to slap underway.  What's the truth on these brackets. People are sometimes quiet on the downside. Want to hear the good and bad.. Thanks..Ray

We just put a Porta bracket on the Mako, but there were changes made to off set this weight redistribution.  A floatation bracket may be the way to go for you.  The air chamber helps compensate for the change.

A lot of guys over on classicmako.com use these:  http://www.dadmarine.com/index00.htm  I think they are cheaper and very good.  Just make sure that they match the bottom of the floatation chamber to your deadrise.

stainless marine is one more that has a good reputation.

My 25' has had a single non floatation bracket on it for the last 3 years Ive had it.  No porposing or slapping of any kind.  I am putting a twin floatation bracket on it from D&D marine.  One of these days I will actually get around to doing this project.
