Hi Everyone.
I think I need a little more bling on my rebuild and one of the places I can upgrade is a new steering wheel.
I think I'd like chrome with grips under the wheel. Center horn button not mandatory (not a bad idea though) :85:
What are your preferences?

Nothing says "bling" like a brass clock and a "style" that has never gone out of.

Hard to argue with CB's choice, but I will probably go with something like the Gem or Schmitt 3-spoke wheels with the speed knob.

Check out Ongaro too. Edson is nice but i cant see spending that much...

The Schmitt doesn't look too bad - about half what Edson wants.

Here is the Gem wheel. They also have one with a "deluxe" knob that costs a little more. I'm going to need two of them, so I'll be looking for the best deal I can find between the Schmitt and the Gem.

Not sure how it stays on the shaft though except for the key?

Interesting. I imagine the center cap comes off so you are able to put a nut on the shaft. It looks like the spokes are flat, not dished like most 3-spoke wheels. Personally I like the dished wheels better, but that is just my preference. It also doesn't say what grade of stainless they use. I'm a little leery of no-name brands that may use inferior materials. It might be stainless, but it could still start rusting out in a year or two.

Be aware of the taper on your hydraulic steering helm and the taper on your your replacement wheel. My Baystar helm had a narrower taper(standard 3/4" helm shaft) than the nock off Edson wheel I purchased. So when I installed the wheel, it bottomed out further up on the wheel taper and partially on the actual vertical shaft. The key still catches it but I had to put a spacer between the hexi acorn nut and the wheel because the wheel went further down on the taper and the nut was bottoming out. I'm assuming the Chinese nock off wheel had the wrong oversize taper. I made it work but bring your machinists scale and measure the taper diameter (largest part) on the wheel, and compare it to the taper on the helm so there's no surprises.
