We Need a Name!!!
« on: June 10, 2008, 06:03:23 PM »
OK, lets review the style names of early Aquasports. First, theres the "flatback" from around 1968 to 1972 depending on who you talk to. Then theres a gap from 1972 to 1977, I'll call those the no name boats. Then in 1978 the CCP started and after that the Osprey. So, the dilema is, if your a 1972 to 1977 guy, whats the style name of your boat? Being a 1977 guy I am very interested and this is the best place to develop something cathchy and identifiable. I am open to suggestions and can offer the following "No Namers", "Angle Back" or "Tweener". Looking for your feedback and if I am wrong about lacking a name, please tell me what it is! As you can probably tell, I am rained out on restoration tonight, which lead me to this nonsense!   CR

OK in reviewing the past brochures, there is alot of talk about the "new modified vee" for these years. Do we go with "Modi" or mabye "New Vee"? Just more suggestions! CR

I refer to the early center console models as Flatbacks, then the next generation by the numbers, (170, 222, 196) and then the later ones as Ospreys.  Really not much difference in a 78 and an 84 222, but it does show the relative dates and models.

It seems the other models - CCP, XF, FF, CCC, SR, TF/TM, etc. go by their own designation - not much difference from one year to the next, until you get to the much later models.  A 79 246CCP is really not much different from an 85.  Some for XF, FF, and the others.

So I vote we call the originals Flatbacks with the length - 222 Flatback
The next ones with 12 degree hull (72-79) would just be model number - 222
80 on as Ospreys with length - 222 Osprey

What do y'all think!

I am not bad with the simply stated 222 for my year ('77), however, there is a great deal of look change in 1978 with a big broad gunnel, that I personnaly don't care for. The flatback guys have a cool name with a cool boat and the same cap I have. The difference is the dearise and flat back transom.  I don't have anything against anyone else, but cool is cool! CR
