Title: Stereo Speakers Install 1987 170
Post by: Idlewildman on June 12, 2017, 09:41:02 PM
I have a 1987 170 and I want to install some speakers. I would like to put them on the inside wall between the small storage compartments and the rod holders, one on port and one starboard. I'm aware of the fuel fill hose and I will clear that but I'm concerned about any other hidden problems that I may not be aware of. Can someone tell me if you know if there is any possible conflicts? Maybe someone that may know the layouts of these 170's better than I do.

As long as you have no wires hidden I know of no issues, maybe someone else will chime in

So my 170 is a 76' but I don't see you having any real problems here. The only wires would be the bow light and they are usually tight to the underside of the gunnel cap. I actually plan on adding 2 more in the same spot but closer to the bow. You can get ur arm around to the backside of the speakers through ur bow locker. Just keep in mind the gap between the liner and the hull tapers off a little as u get further aft. Be careful with a hole saw or jig saw. Good luck!

I am looking to install two up front there, as well as two in the stern where the recessed openings end. I plan on a mini enclosure so i can keep the speakers in the opening of the rod holder area.
