The fabricator basically told me that I should be loosing around 500 pounds of weight from the stern once completed.

For starters.......Wet, saturated wood in transom, batteries going forward out of splashwell, entire splashwell being removed along with factory livewell.  Also, the stainless steel bracket that was installed weighs in around 50 pounds.  He estimated transom to be an extra 250 to 300 in additional weight right now based on saturation.  That should about cover it.

I think his estimate is a tad high on water saturation weight. Those kind of numbers equals about 25 gallons of water. I don't think the transom can hold that much water!

His estimate of water saturation might be on the high side.  Even if it is, I don't think that has any bearing on this thread.  I am not basing my decision on that.  I do know this guy has been in business for over 30 years and does excellent work.  I started this thread for suggestions and ideas that might assist me or others in the future with CCP'S.      

Bottom line, I will get back a much improved boat with an excellent job.

JD- plan on taking out as much foam on the sides as you can.  I took 200-300 lbs of wet foam out when I put the under-deck storage on my boat.  That foam that is outboard of the stringers is likely soaked and you can get to it to remove it during the transom job.  I would guess a lot of the weight in the back of your boat is from the wet foam...

Have to agree with Capt. John on his post, I figure he will take at least a foot of the floor out in the stern, leaves alot of room to shove things up in the outsides and get to a bunch of maybe wet foam If it's not wet, I might consider leaving it in, but if water comes out, it would lighten it some more to get some of it out..just my.02

OH your definitely going in the right direction.  It would be cool if you could get a before and after weight of the boat to see who much lighter she is.  I weighed the 170 trailer the other day and I can go back and get a loaded weight for free so I can figure out exactly what the 170 weighs.

Funny, I was thinking of doing the same to my FFV.  Like Bill's but with out the raised transom. I use a short shaft kicker and don't need the extra height.

Got the boat dropped off Saturday.  Got the price I was looking for so struck a deal with Pamlico Boat and Fiberglass for the work to begin.
