Side Mount Binnacle Very Loose
« on: May 21, 2013, 04:40:03 PM »
I have a Tohatsu Side Mount Binnacle that just recently become very wobbly (from left to right) as if the throttle is almost about to fall off.  Also noticed its hard to find neutral as there is no click since this happend.  If I hold the throttle firmly against the binnacle body its clicks into neutral much better, but I still need to get this fixed.

Im sure there is a way to adjust/tighten this up, but I just can figure out how?

Scott, most likely your binnacle is made by the same outfit that makes Yamaha 704s.  Should be a rubber cover where you "push for throttle only".  Pop that cover off and you should be able to tighten up the machine screw that retains the lever...

Scott, is this the one you have?  http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-NISSAN-TOHA ... 7675.l2557

Scott, take a look at this PDF from Tohatsu on your binnacle...http://tohatsu-nissan-parts.com/Parts%2 ... 02-21024-3).pdf

May have to pull the binnacle off the console to tighten the screw up that retains the lever...

Yup, that was it! I tightend up that bolt and all is good now. Thanks bob, you da man!

Now, while were on the subject, is there anyway to greese up the internal workings of the binnicale to make the forward and reverse throttle smoother (or less tight while throttling up/down)?

Scott, you can take the binnacle apart and grease the inner workings, but I don't think that's gonna do it.  Sounds to me like that throttle cable is the culprit.  I would try backing off the throttle friction screw.  It might be tightened a bit too much to prevent throttle creep...
