200 trim tab placement
« on: June 20, 2014, 10:33:49 AM »
hey guys.  i have a set of 8 or 9"x12" tabs with lenco rams to install in the next few weeks.  where on the transom, in or out, should i mount the tabs?  anybody have any pics?  i understand where to mount height wise but not sure where to go in or out on the transom.  kinda need to know by tomorrow morning so i can mount my transducer without fear of being in the way of the tabs later.  thanks.

I know with bennetts they want them placed out to the sides as far as possible given the chine shape.

On my ccp200 they are just in from the sides starting where the flat chine meets the "V" part of the hull.

yeah kinda what i figured.  thats the popular method.  i just need to hold them up and make sure i mount the ducer out of the way.

The ideal location, given a hull bottom with a pronounced chine, either flat or reverse.  Obviously, these are Bennetts, but same principal applies to Lencos.  The outboard edge of the plane right at the radius where the chines meets the hull bottom, between 1/4" and 3/16" above the hull bottom...

As far as Garmin, or anyone elses transducer, basically what you said, Jason.  Here's a Garmin on Wes Napp's 200 Osprey...

The pic doesn't show it. but the inboard edge is 1/8" above the hull bottom.  This position works VERY well for holding bottom at speed...

My pleasure, Jason.  On Wes's 200, I would have preferred to move the ducer a bit further away from the tab, but just adjacent to the UW light you see there, he has a transom mount TM, so it had to stay in that location.  Whoever installed it for him basically didn't know what they were doing...imagine that...
