1974 Aquasport 19-6 Rebuild

Work is underway! Deck is off. Both stringers had dry foam but the stringers had separated from the hull! Someone in the past liked jumping waves. Those are now glassed back down.

The good news is the builder swears that the transom is solid and has no issues. The transom is ugly but solid. I've asked him to drill some test holes to make sure.

The new deck should be going in next week.

I've decided to paint the hull and cap white (with a little flattener to take the glare off) and the deck a light gray. I had planned on a light blue but decided to keep the original color. The green rubrail wouldn't look good with the light blue!

I'm still in the market for a leaning post/livewell combo. The commandcenter one is pretty expensive and I am really afraid that a 50 gallon livewell is overkill for a 19-6 hull. Any additional ideas are welcomed. I am having a bronze thru-hull seacock put in for the livewell as well as a thru-hull transducer while the deck is off (I detest hanging stuff off the transom).

I'm still debating power. Since I'm keeping the 20" transom a 4-stroke will be too heavy. I haven't decided if I'll look for "slightly" used or spring the cash for new.

Very latest update is that the builder drilled 20 test holes and swears the transom is solid. He also said that the only weak spots on the deck were a place about 3' long on the port side that had cracked and a 2' place just in front of the transom. Over 90% of the deck was solid.

I've asked the builder to refoam the whole boat and use high quality access hatches where it makes sense. We'll decide the locations of the hatches next week.

She's going to be sweet when she's done.  What glass lay-up will be used over the new deck?  I'm involved with a deck job now and can always use info. as to how others are tackling the job.

Maybe you should rethink the Light Blue. If you want an idea of what it would look like, I just posted some pictures of the near finished real thing.

The color is still being debated...we'll see what I settle one. It may just be a white hull. Any opinions on the best deck color?

Progress to date is:

Stringers reglassed, console has been repaired, rotten wood in cap (in the bow) has been repaired, and hull refoamed.

For deck I use Sandtone. No glare and hides fish blood fairly well.  8)

That's why I have light colored hats. Lots of bloody fingerprints.

Going with the white hull and light gray deck for a color.

The builder replaced rotten wood on the cap and in the console. The leaning post/livewell combo is on order and the bronze thru-hull and seacock have been installed. The fuel tank turned out to be a newer unit and was pressure last week...all is well. It now has a new sending unit.

The deck can't go in until the livewell arrives so that final placement of the leaning post/livewell can be ascertained.
