1979 22-2 Rebuild: Complete!
« on: July 11, 2012, 09:43:05 AM »
Hey guys, I know some of you have been curious about the boat, sorry it's taken me a while to post some pics.  First, the back-story.  I got up with Eugene Son down at Shipoke, outside of Tampa, through the forum and a few very helpful members.  What started as a mere curious inquiry has turned into an incredible boat that I'll surely keep and use for many years down the road.  After going down and meeting with Eugene in December, and seeing what a first-class job those guys do, I decided to embark on a rebuild with them.  Eugene was great to work with; I had many ideas of my own, and he had many more (and better) ideas that we infused along the way.  What we ended with is a highly functional 22-2 with lots of storage, a ton of fishing room, the right power setup, and a great ride.  The fit and finish on this boat is, in my opinion, second to none.  I'll stop with the rambling and throw some pictures up; I will get more interior and detailed pics this evening and post them, it's been storming for 40 days and nights up here recently.

Feel free to ask any questions, I'm sure Eugene will chime in as well.  I won't post pics of the process, will leave that up to Eugene if he so chooses.

Greg.....WOW!!

What a beauty, congratulations. You have a lot to be proud of, as do you Eugene.

I was fortunate to see some build pics along the way...guys, she is just as sweet underneath.

Can't wait to see her this fall!

Excellent job.

It's refreshing to see a professional rebuild that leaves the owner highly satisfied.
Seems we had a little run of disappointments in this area as of late.

Hopefully that's changing.

Enjoy it Greg. :thumright:

Great looking ride! I really like the way you did the transom cap with all of that storage/livewell. How does she run with the 150? Did you move your fuel tank forward some to compensate for the Porta Bracket?

We got an 82-gallon tank in there that is about 10 ft long, so that moves a good bit of weight forward.  Having the batteries in the coffin box also helps.  Eugene can elaborate more on the technical specifics.

As for the power, I was honestly worried about being underpowered.  However, it turns out that the power is perfect.  With four guys and a full load of gas, it cruises at 30-31 mph getting about 3.8 mpg.  I believe we topped out at 6000 rpms around 43 mph.  Couldn't ask for more!  The motor isn't too heavy and obviously allows the boat to sit and run like it should.  There is so little bowrise it's incredible, and that's without running the tabs down any.  Worked out great, I'm glad Eugene had that much faith in it being the correct power.

Gran398's badge from Adeptus in Tampa would look great on your boat.
