Omc throttle wires going to ignition
« on: July 06, 2016, 10:27:44 AM »
Hey guys,

I have an OMC binnacle mount box for my 1990 evinrude 88 spl. The ignition and safety switch is a separate unit. The ignition is all wired up correctly but I am not sure where to wire in the 2 wires coming from the control box. I assume they are for Nuetral start. The wire come down the side of the unit is for the power trim. The one coming from the bottom (2 wires in a black sleeve) are what I'm talking about. I took a pic of EVERYTHING I took apart except for that of course. I really appreciate any help. I found diagrams online but I don't know which wires these are.

Thank you!!

If I remember correctly (I will check next time I lift the seat) the flat cable has 3 wires going to the trim and tilt in the harness, the other pair on mine has barrel plugs to  mate up to some wires in the harness going back to engine. They are for the Neutral Start Switch. I could tell you the colors that they match up to in the harness but my harness is currently under the tank hatch until I install the console.

I think they are neutral start.  My omc binnacle has yellow wires (in a black sleeve).  Ohm them out.  Should read nearly 0 Ohm in neutral and open in fwd and rev.

Thanks guys.  I just need to figure out where they connect into the ignition wiring harness. Im not sure if they get attached directly to one of the connections on the back of the ignition or get spliced in to the harness somewhere. I will investigate when I get home to see if there's a couple wires not connected in the harness that I missed.
