New to me 270 FX questions/help - info on my unique model and repower

(1/3) > >>

challengesea:
I have just purchased a 1986 270 FX and I am having a hard time finding boats, of that model, like it.  Anyone know why? West Coast boat? It does not have any ports in the cuddy cabin, only the 1 in the head.  Also, single screw gas.  Is this common, but I am just not seeing online or is this rare?

Curious about performance and fuel consumption for single screw gas models.

May have to re-power.  Recommendations and why - go back single gas, diesel or go with outboards on bracket?

Thank you,

gh

RickK:
Hi George.
Please post some pix and let us take a peek at her so we can help you.

Capt. Bob:
The 270XFs we've seen have multi ports in the cabins.

They also have been powered by outboards and the old OMC Seadrives (see photo below).

Single screw might have been an option as was gas and diesel.

An article in Boating Magazine circa 1985:

Need some pics.

RickK:
Even the short lived 266 had two port lights.  :det1:

Capt. Bob:
I'll be damned. I found the article in my files. Must be an Amy's Closet eBay special.
Pic above was from a three boat review including a Tiara Pursuit and a Grady-White.

Lakeland Boating  March 1983

Quoting Aqua President Tom Roath "he prefers outboard power on this boat despite the fact his company would make more money building outdrive versions". Note, pic shows twin 235 Evinrudes.

This is interesting but shows that Aquasport was flexible: Other power options include OMC Sea Drives , or MerCruiser and OMC stern drives. All versions call for twin engines..
