trolling motor batteries

im planing on buying a trolling motor this weekend(tomorrow). probably a 36 volt 60 inch shaft Motorguide. i hardly have enough room under the console for my 2 group 27 batteries, trim tab pump, livewell/wash-down pumps... i was thinking about mounting the batteries in the forward storage compartment under the casting platform. would it be ok to mount the batteries that far forward?

also what batteries y'all recommend?

The 2 group 31 Cabelas AGMs I installed on the Docs Talon...


Just aft the anchor locker.  Also did it the same way on the 22 Pathfinder...shouldn't have a problem...

thanks bob! just picked up the trolling motor. wont be able to install for a few more weeks, gotta remove my bow rail first

Dis you mean a 24V TM?  36V would mean 3 batts...and I don't know of many 36V TMs out there, unless they have about 150lbs of thrust!!!

You will not be sorry.  Trying to fight a spring tide under the Skyway or going against a stiff afternoon sea breeze and you will appreciate the 109#.

yeah my buddy has a 82# 24v and he said he wished he went with a 36v, even trying to fight a afternoon sea breeze is a bit of a challenge

well after fishing today i said screw it and started taking the bow rail off to make room for the trolling motor... then i said while im at it, theres plenty of day light left, im just gonna install it... well here it is!

well, im doing all the wiring for the TM today, already got the batteries installed and wired together, had to go with group 24's due to size, and they almost didnt fit... got the 3 bank charger mounted and wired up... next im installing charger plug and TM plug... pics will come later today

Excellent on the install!  Where are you locating the TM receptacle, and how are you routing the TM wires under the deck?  Remember, you're going to need a healthy breaker to protect it, I'd say 40A...don't know the specs on that TM, probably the manual will tell you what size...

i opted for the flush mount charger plug thing


running 3 duralast group 24 deep cycles, will eventually switch to agm batteries...


3 bank battery charger, dont like the location but it will do for now... gonna weatherstrip around the hatch to limit water getting in


took my old LED bow light apart and flipped the LED's and mounted it under the TM mount

Tight squeeze, but that's the nature of the beast!  Well done!  Keep in mind, the PM batt cahrger is totally waterproof, so don't worry about it.  Weather stripping is a good idea, though, and will do nothing but help.  Just make sure you have a hatch pull that you can dog down pretty tight...

Thought about that breaker I mention before?

bob, you know as well as i do that nothing is totally waterproof, even if it says "totally waterproof"

but yeah ill get one on friday when i have more funds in the bank 8)
