97. 215 DC Tachometer rebuilding or replacement

(1/2) > >>

Ben DiGregorio:
Anybody have a source for rebuilding or replacement

Capt. Bob:
Need just a little more info.
Is this a Yamaha multi gauge tach?

If so, has the LCD screen turned the dreaded "orange"?

Ben DiGregorio:
It’s a Yamaha 250

OK, I'll go out on a limb here and guess you have a Yamaha 250hp motor and go a little more and guess it uses Yamaha's multi gauge for instrumentation and the gauge face is no longer readable and looks like this. :ScrChin:

If all of this is correct, Jason (aka boatnamesue) might be able to help with where to get the "polarizer" screen replaced.

Here's another option where the screen is replaced.

If not, Yamaha updated the multi gauge line in 94 and I have seen your style (97) for sale online.
I did not take the time to look up the model gauge relative to your motor for a cross reference but you get the idea.

Restoration or replacement depends on what's causing the issue.....If LCD issue then it's toast.  If polarizer issue then its restorable.  Pulled from the above noted website....

"Many older Gauges have LCD Leaks. The symptom of this is a dark black ‘INKY’ spot at the bottom of the LCD Screen (sometimes accompanied with missing segments on the screen when powered up). Restoration will not fix this.  Polarization Film replacement can resolve faded LCD problems on many gauges or instruments.  If the LCD can be removed and reinstalled without destroying the integrity of the case, there is a good chance that the repair will bring back the clarity.  If you’re not sure, send a picture over, or send the device to me. Again, IF WE CAN’T FIX IT, THERE’S NO CHARGE!"
